Simhat Torah Services Next Week To Conclude the Holiday Season Services of thanksgiving will be recited in synagogues throughout the city this week and next, as Jewry everywhere continues the celebration of -the holiday of Sukkot. Services to- day will conclude the first two days of worship, while next Wednesday, Thursday and Fri- day will end the holiday with Shmini Atzeret and Simhat Torah prayers. FolioWing is a sehedule • of services for the holidays, togeth- er with a calendar of sabbath services: - Arias Shalom Synagogue Services at 8:30 a.m., today will be conducted by Rabbi Ja- cob E. Segal, with Cantor Nicho- las Fenakel and the choir chant- ing the liturgical portions. A sukkah, adjacent to the syna- gogue, will be open for a kiddush and reception following the service. At Saturday services, the Bar Mitzvahs of Ronald and Donald Rice will be observed. Cong. Shaarey Zedek "The Joyous Life" is the topic of Rabbi Morris Adler's sermon at services today. Shmini Atzeret services will be held at 5:45 p.m., Wed- nesday, with Thursday Yizkor services, starting at 8:45 a.m. Simhat Torah evening services Thursday are at 5:30 p.m. and Friday at 8:45 a.m. A feature of Simhat Torah services will be 'the graduation 'exercises of eighth grade stu- dents of the religious school, which will follow worship in the main auditorium. Oak Park Synagogue At Simhat Torah services at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at An- drew- Jackson School, children entering the Sunday school will be consecrated. The regular service will follow. Gerrelick will preach at Sukkot services . ; Synagogues Respond To Yeshivah Appeal Appeals for the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah were made in eleven Orthodox synagogues 'during the High Holidays, and lour additional congregations will urge members to contribute to the Yeshivah during Shemini Atzeret, it was reported by Rab- bi Charles H. Rosenzweig at a combined meeting of Yeshivah leaders and the Synagogue Council. Synagogues responding to the appeals are Congregations Beth Moses, Beth T v a h, Beth Shmuel, Bnai Jacob, Bnai Is- rael. Mogen. Abraham, Young Is- rael. Shaarey Shomain, Ohel Sara, Bnal David, Joseph W. Al- len (Home for Aged), Northwest Israel, Chesed shel Emes, Kehal Charedim. and Beth Abraham. Many synagogues, without de- livering appeals, have allocated contributions from their general funds. A special calendar, prepared by the Yeshivah, listing dates and times of licht benshen, has been distributed to congrega- tions making appeals. Dr. Salit will be the first Jewish leader from the United States to 'visit Germany on an official German Government in- vitation in the past 20 years, Dr. Salit since the pre- Hitler era.
