Simhat Torah Services Next Week
To Conclude the Holiday Season

Services of thanksgiving will
be recited in synagogues
throughout the city this week
and next, as Jewry everywhere
continues the celebration of -the
holiday of Sukkot. Services to-
day will conclude the first two
days of worship, while next
Wednesday, Thursday and Fri-
day will end the holiday with
Shmini Atzeret and Simhat
Torah prayers.
FolioWing is a sehedule • of
services for the holidays, togeth-
er with a calendar of sabbath
services: -
Arias Shalom Synagogue
Services at 8:30 a.m., today
will be conducted by Rabbi Ja-
cob E. Segal, with Cantor Nicho-
las Fenakel and the choir chant-
ing the liturgical portions. A
sukkah, adjacent to the syna-
gogue, will be open for a kiddush
and reception following the
service. At Saturday services, the
Bar Mitzvahs of Ronald and
Donald Rice will be observed.
Cong. Shaarey Zedek
"The Joyous Life" is the
topic of Rabbi Morris Adler's
sermon at services today.
Shmini Atzeret services will
be held at 5:45 p.m., Wed-
nesday, with Thursday Yizkor
services, starting at 8:45 a.m.
Simhat Torah evening services
Thursday are at 5:30 p.m. and
Friday at 8:45 a.m.
A feature of Simhat Torah
services will be 'the graduation
'exercises of eighth grade stu-
dents of the religious school,
which will follow worship in the
main auditorium.
Oak Park Synagogue
At Simhat Torah services at
7:30 p.m., Thursday at An-
drew- Jackson School, children
entering the Sunday school will
be consecrated. The regular
service will follow. Rabbi Her-
bert S. Eski• will preach on
'Consecration to Judaism."
The last' day of registration
for the school will be this •Sun-
day wizen children from pre-
kindergarten (age 4) through
sixth grade will be accepted.
Classes begin at 9:30 a.m., Oct. 4.

Synagogues Respond
To Yeshivah Appeal

Appeals for the Yeshivath
Beth Yehudah were made in
eleven Orthodox synagogues
'during the High Holidays, and
lour additional congregations
will urge members to contribute
to the Yeshivah during Shemini
Atzeret, it was reported by Rab-
bi Charles H. Rosenzweig at a
combined meeting of Yeshivah
leaders and the Synagogue
Council.
Synagogues responding to the
appeals are Congregations Beth
Moses, Beth T v a h, Beth
Shmuel, Bnai Jacob, Bnai Is-
rael. Mogen. Abraham, Young Is-
rael. Shaarey Shomain, Ohel
Sara, Bnal David, Joseph W. Al-
len (Home for Aged), Northwest
Israel, Chesed shel Emes, Kehal
Charedim. and Beth Abraham.
Many synagogues, without de-
livering appeals, have allocated
contributions from their general
funds.
A special calendar, prepared
by the Yeshivah, listing dates
and times of licht benshen, has
been distributed to congrega-
tions making appeals. Individ-
uals contributing the mainten-
ance fund also may obtain these
calendars.

Rabbi From to Review
Pfeffer's Book Tuesday

Mr. Henry M. Rottman, presi-
dent of the Business and Pro-
fessional Chapter announced
that Rabbi Leon Fram, new
president of the Michigan Coun-
cil of the American Jewish Con-
gress will review a new and au-
thoritative book in the field of

today on "The Wonders of Na-
ture." Cantor Judah Goldring
will chant the ritual music.
Sabbath services are slated for
6 p.m., today and at 8:45 a.m.,
Saturday. A Sukkah has been
constructed and worshippers will
celebrate with a Kiddush fol-
lowing the services.
Cong. Bnai Moshe
Rabbi Moses Lehrman and
Cantor David Katzman will con-
duct the holiday services, which
will be held at 9 a.m., today. A
sukkah has been erected in the
courtyard, adjacent to the school
building.
Temple. Israel
The Festival of Conclusion-
Shmini Atzeret—will be ob-
served with the annual cere-
mony of the blessing of the
children who begin their reli-
gious education this year in
the religious school. The cere-
mony will be held on Thurs-
day, and will be followed by
Yizkor memorial prayers.
Suburban Temple
Sabbath services will be held
at 8:15 p.m., today, at Burton
School, in Huntington Woods.
Children in the religious school,
and those who were not con-
secrated last year, will be blessed
at Simhat Torah services at 7:30
p .m., Oct. 2.
Northwest Israel Synagogue
"Sukkot—a Festival of
Thanksgiving" will be the ser-
mon topic of Rabbi Leo Y. Gold-
man at Sukkot services today.
Evening sabbath services will be
held at 6 p.m., with Saturday
services beginning at 9 a.m. Rab-
bi Goldman will preach on-
"Confidence."
Cong. Mishkan" Israel
At Sulkot services today,
Rabbi Isaac Stollman will preach
on "Unity and Cooperation."
Downtown Synagogue
Special Yizkor Memorial serv-
ices are planned from 8:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. on Shmini Atzeret
Thursday, at the synagogue
building, 1205 Griswold. Rabbi
Herman Rosenwasser will con-
duct the services.

In U.S. Religious 9-Man
Delegation to Germany

The Synagogue Council of
America announced acceptance
by its .piesident, • Dr. Norman
Salit of New York, of an invita-
tion from the Bonn Federal
Republic to join a delegation of
American reli-
gious leaders in
a month - long
tour of West
Germany.
Dr. Salit will
be the first
Jewish leader
from the United
States to 'visit
Germany on an
official German
Government in-
vitation in the
past 20 years,
Dr. Salit since the pre-
Hitler era. He will also be the
only representatiVe of American
Jewry in the delegation.
The delegation of nine Ameri-
can religious leaders will leave
Idlewild International Airport
New York, Oct. 12, and will re-
turn to the U. S. Nov. 11.

of Kvutzah Ivrith, Hebrew Cul-
tural Group of Detroit, will be
held at 9 p.m., Oct. 3, in the
Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg. audito-
rium, it was announced this
week by Joseph Katz, president.
Reports of the past year's ac-
tivities will be given by Katz and
chairman of all standing com-
mittees. The report of the nom-
inating committee, consisting of
M. Michlin, M. Nobel and M.
Mathis, will precede the elec-
tion.
Brief . talks' will be delivered,
in a program to follow, on im-
portant issues and events in
Jewish life, and community
singing will be led by A. Schach-
ter.

Folk School Children
To Observe Sukkot

Children of the United Jewish
Folk Schools will participate in
a program at 4 p.m., Wednes-
day, celebrating the holidays of
Stikkot and Simhat Torah.
Songs, recitations and the tra-
ditional parade with the esrogim
and lulovim will highlight the
program.
Students have made indivi-
dual sukkahs, which will be on
display all week. There aisa is
