outburst of anti-Semitism that swept through the Iron Curtain
countries during late fall and early winter. They were cared for
at an emergency shelter set up by the Joint Distribution Com-
mittee, one of the three constituent agencies of the United Jew-
ish Appeal. Now, thanks to the contributions American Jewry has
made to the United Jewish Appeal they will have the opportunity
to pick up the threads of their lives once more. But much still
remains to be done until they can become self-sufficient citizens.
