Malben Opens Third Old-Age Home for 200 in Israel

the opening of a third old-age
home at Ein Shemer. Israel, the
newest installation financed by
Malben, JDC program. on behalf
of aged, ill and handicapped
newcomers to the Jewish state.
The home, the third home for

the aged to be established by
Malben at Ein Shemer, will pro-
vide shelter for -some 200 aged
men and women, Mr. Leavitt
declare d. The home is tne
twelfth old-age home now op-
erating under Malben auspices
and will bring to a total of 1,500
the number of aged men and
women being cared for under the
rehabilitation program.

Oscar Straus and His Horse

"Because," she replied, "he's

A rabbi in Hollywood is sick
to death of the socials and

to attend almost every other
evening. At one of them, he en-
tered wearily, glanced sourly at
the over-familiar cast of char-
acters, and sank into the nearest
chair. The hostess asked coyly,
"A spot of tea, Rabbi?" "No tea,"
he growled. "Coffee, Rabbi?"
"No coffee." An understanding
woman, she whispered in his ear,
"Scotch and water, Rabbi?"
Said the rabbi, brightening, "No
water."

M y r on Cohen, dialectician,
tells this yarn about the two
dress manufacturers who were
partners but hated each other.
They were dining at a swank
eatery and discussing a very
important deal. Both ordered
steaks.
As soon the the food was
served, one partner cut off a
piece of steak, deposited it in a
napkin and put it in his pocket.
Then he finished his steak.
The headwaiter noticed this
and asked, "Howcum?"
"It's this way"—was the ex-
planation. "My partner hates
me. I know he wanted me to
choke on the first bite—so I
fooled him!"

One of producer Sam Gold-
wyn's employees became a proud
father. "What did you name
your son?" inquired Goldwyn.
"Abe" replied the employee.
"Why did you name him Abe?"
asked Goldwyn. "Every Tom,
Dick and Harry is named Abe!"
