Kidnapped Dutch
Child Restored
To Jewish Mother
AMSTERDAM, (JTA)—A five-
year-old child, kidnapped by
her father a year ago and placed
in a Catholic institution in Ber-
celonia, Spain, was brought
back to this city and is to be
returned to the custody of her
Jewish mother
The child, Marja Aykens, ar-
rived at Schiphol Airport ac-
companied by a Dutch Roman
Catholic priest after months of
negotiations and efforts. She
was kidnapped by her father
after the Dutch courts had de-
prived him of parental author-
ity and had placed the child in
her mother's tut el a g e. Her
father intended, after his di-
vorce, to take the child and
emigrate to Brazil. Chief Rabbi
Justus Tal of Amsterdam suc-
ceeded through the intermediary
of the Bishop of Haarlem and
with the aid of the Dutch For-
eign Office, to induce the Span-
ish authorities to aid in restor-
ing the girl to her mother.

order to facilitate the transfer
of emigrants to Israel from Mo-

the Agency's immigration de-

The purpose of Mr. Raphael's
visit is to implement a plan for
the transfer of 3,000 young Jews
from various parts of North Af-

plan is under study, he said, to
establish 10 new Israel coopera-
tive settlements where the 3,000
immigrants would be immedi-
ately absorbed.

Greetings on the New Year
LONDON, (JTA) — A report
that two British Jews had been
expelled from Egypt was re-
ceived here last week-end. The
two were Jack Djeddah, a well-
known stock broker. and Haroun
Ammar, a merchant. The
Egyptian authorities refused to
give any explanation for the ex-
pulsion of the two men.
The same report said that the
"position of foreign Jews in
Egypt has become more difficult
in recent weeks. Some time ago,
a special section of the Ministry
of the Interior was assigned to
investigate all f or e i g n Jews
wishing to obtain exit visas."
It was also reported that sev
eral Jews accused of Communist
activity in Egypt are now being
held in Cairo prisons. A Jewish
printer was arrested recently—
and is under detention in the
El Tor camp, near the Sinai
peninsula—on charges of print-
irig an article criticizing Prem-
ier Naguib.
