Circumcision Is A Must,
—Cavalier Writer Asserts

a

An Exclusive American Jewish Press Feature

Circumcision is a. must.
If all facts were known and
acted. upon, circumcision would
be compulsory for every male
child born in the United States.
Those are the- opinions of wri-
ter Eric Northrup in "Cavalier"
magazine.
• Northrup* reveals that it has
been proved by clinical and lab-
oratory evidence that venereal
disease strikes hardest at the
uncircumcised members of our
population and that penile car-
cinoma—a form of cancer much
feared in many parts of the
world—shows special preference
for uncircumcised males, while
rarely attacking the circumcised.
Well-known surgeon Arthur L.
Dean states that he "strongly
-recommends circumcision a
week after birth." Dean's en-
dorsement of circumcision as a
cancer preventive is based on
more than his own experience,
Northup writes. It is buttressed
by hard-packed statistics gath-
- ered from hospitals in this

country and abroad. Surveys
based on thousands of skin and
cancer admissions to clinics in
New York, Montreal, Tel Aviv
and elsewhere, reveal that there
is not a single case of penile
carcinoma among men circum-
cised in infancy.
"As .medical science mobilizes
its forces for human health,
doctors, hospitals and clinics
throughout the nation are be-
ginning to discover that circum-
cision is a key weapon in the
fight against cancer and ven-
ereal disease," Northrup writes.
"It may be man's oldest opera-
tion, or his fanciest bit of plas-
tic surgery—whichever you pre-
ter—but 'from the looks of
things, circumcision ' may soon
become as compulsory and uni-
versally accepted as the com-
mon vaccination."

INSIST ON
TITLE INSURANCE

For Maximum Property Protection

Your lawyer, your real estate broker, or your mortgage
lender will tell you that it pays to insist on a Title Guar-
anty Policy with any Real Estate you buy. The cost is
small indeed compared with the benefit you receive. No
other form of title protection gives such complete securi-
ty against loss ... such complete peace of mind.

Naturally you will want to purchase this protection from
Michigan's first title insurance company.

LONDON, (JTA)—The annual
conference of the British Labor
Party will be asked to adopt a
resolution supporting the stand
taken by its faction in Parlia-
ment which opposed the supply-
ing of jet planes to the Arab
states as long as they did not
conclude peace with Israel. The
resolution will be presented by
the British Zionist Labor Party.
The conference, which will
take place at the end of this
month in Margate, will be asked
to declare that the arms race in
the Middle East is endangering
the economic progress of the re-
gion and preventing the raising
of the living standards of the
population.
The resolution also asks that
in any arrangement between
Britain and Egypt, the wider in-
terests of the region as a whole,
including the security and wel-
fare of Israel, be taken into full
account. It deplores the "serious
incidents" along Israel's borders
and calls upon the Arab rulers
to reach a final settlement with
the State of Israel through di-
rect peace talks.
Furthermore, the resolution
asserts that peace between the
Arab world and Israel based on
full sovereignty and territorial
integrity of all the states in the
area, is a "vital need both for
the Middle East and for the
cause of world peace. It also asks
the British government to use
its "Ion g s t a n d i n g friendship
with Jordan" to achieve better
understanding between that
country and Israel.

American Groups Invited to Attend
First U. S. Zionist Assembly Dec. 5-7

NEW YORK, (JTA)—The eight major Zionist groups
in this country were invited to participate in the first Ameri-
can Zionist Assembly, which will seek "to establish a broad-
er base of fraternal and cooperative relations" with the
American Zionist movement, and to lay the groundwork for
more effective Zionist activities in the United States "with-
out impairing the autonomy of participating groups."
The invitation, addressed to the president of each group,
was issued by Louis Lipsky, chairman of the American Zion-
ist Council, which represents all Zionist organizations in
this country. The Assembly will be held Dec. 5-7 at Hotel
Roosevelt, here, Mrs. Lipsky announced.

German Pastor,
Friend of Jews,
Invited to Israel

STUTTGART, (JTA)—The
Rev. Hermann Maas, supervising
Protestant clergyman in the
Heidelberg area and one of the
most warm - hearted German
friends of the Jewish people, has
ben invited for a second postwar
visit by the Israel Government.
He hopes to depart within the
next few weeks.
Archdeacon Maas, who is 76,
has ben a 'dedicated Zionist ever
since he attended a Zionist Con-
gress in Basle shortly after the
turn of the century. He became
thoroughly conversant with
modern H e b r e w, translated
Chaim Nachman Bialik into Ger-
man and journeyed to Palestine
even during the early years of
the Hitler regime. Later, he sav-
ed many Jewish children from
the fury of persecution. The end
of the war found him in a Nazi
labor camp.
In 1950, he was the first Ger-
man Gentile to be invited by the
Israel Government to visit the
Jewish State. The enthusiastic
and deeply touching reports of
this tour, which he delivered to
the German people upon his re-
turn, together with his constant
reminders of Germany's account-
ability and obligation towards
the Je ws, helped to create the
psychological atmosphere in
which the Israel reparations
agreement became possible.

It looks like there's a Texaco
Star Theatre future in Gertrude
Berg's TV career. Reaction to
Mrs. Berg's integration into the
Milton Berle stanza a few weeks
back has continued at such a
favorable pace that she'll be in-
corporated into additional seg-
ments this season. Mrs. Berg,
under contract to NBC-TV, has
been on the sidelines all season
because of the net work's in-
ability to clear time, despite
sponsor inter es t. Gertrude
says whether or not a man suc-
ceeds in pulling the wool over
his wife's eyes depends on the
yarn he's using.

A film producer's wife told
Milton Berle, "It's not true that
I married a millionaire. I made
him one."
"What was he before you
married him?" asked Milton.
The wife answered, "A.
