NEW YORK, (JTA) —The New
York Board of Rabbis,•repre-
senting 650 rabbis of Orthodox,
Conservative and Reform con-
gregations, has decided to appeal
to Mayor Vincent R.• ImPellitteri
to halt the demolition of a
synagogue on the Lower East
Side for a proposed municipal
low rent housing project.
The Board believes that the
Sineer and Wilria Synagogue
should be spared, because it is
one of the largest and most
strategically placed synagogues in
the area. The- housing authority,
which has offered the congrega-
tion a site for a new* synagogue
in the adjacent. Baruch :Housing
project; is going ahead with its
plans - to erect nine 16& .. story
buildings 'on the project site;
:one of them will be on the site
now occupied by the, synagogue
