Israel Cabinet Amends Citizenship Law The JWB Celebrates JERUSALEM, (JTA) — An ex- traordinary cabinet meeting ap- proved an amendment to the Israel citizenship law empower- ing the Minister of Interior to "prevent the immigration of per- sons who may endanger the pub- lic security." A Cabinet spokesman explain- ed that the bill was so worded that it could not be misused for political purposes. He said it was aimed at keeping professional criminals out of Israel, adding that the government suspects that Jewish criminals abroad are sometimes released from prison on condition that they leave for Israel. The Cabinet also approved the draft of an ordinance which gives the Minister of Interior the power to dissolve a municipal council upon the recommenda- tion of a special commission of inquiry. Although the measure does not mention Jerusalem, it was drawn up in accordance with the recommendations of a commission which investigated Jerusalem's current municipal crisis. At present, the Minister may only dissolve a municipal council if it acts illegally or if it permanently lacks a quorum. The term is traced in origin to a root meaning "to Search" in which case the motive of the developed argument of a cer- tain point is a search for true learning and understanding. Some trace its origin to a word meaning "to season" or "to spice," indicating perhaps that either the "pilpul" adds flavor to the text which it treats or that its true, aroma is arrived at by "breaking apart" the elenients such as is done with spices t.) extract their desirable odor or taste. . There have been attempts at other derivations too. Whatever the case; the "piipul" discussion is a fascinating play on logic and has always been used .to diSplay one's keen understand- ing of. traditional texts and laws. Among traditional. Jews it still is customary today for the Bar Mitzvah boy or the bride- groom to present such a discus- sion as proof of the fact thitt the individual has achieved a standing in the learned com- munity. .********•••••••••••••••• Holiday Greetings TO OUR MANY FRIENDS C urtain Zaunciry and Cleaner J, 4737 ELMHURST 9423 GRAND RIVER •••••••••••••••••••••••••• ll2n:n rIZIU 44rusi ► ietn NEW YORK TO ISRAEL 18200 Woodingham te•••••••omomemeo. .. in Tents Best Wishes to the Community for a Year of Health and Happiness Z I M 9 Consult your travel agent ZIM ISRAEL NAVIGATION COMPANY, LTD.
