End of Israel Food Rationing
JERUSALEM, (JTA)—The end
of all food rationing in Israel
within six months was forecast
by Minister of Trade and Indus-
try Dr. Peretz Bernstein, in a
Parliament speech.
Replying to criticism of his
Ministry during discussion of the
appropriations for his depart-
ment, Dr. Bernstein said that
the policy of relaxing controls
instituted by him had already
shown positive results. He in-
sisted that "to the extent that
we are able to increase the rate
of decontrol and open the way
to real competition, we can hope
for better quality and perhaps
even lower prices."

An American Jewish Press Feature
While the family life of Moses Mendelsohn, the great German
philosopher, was unusually happy, yet in his daughters the im-
memorial chastity of Jews was undermined. Mendelsohn,
himself, stood aghast at the irony of human destiny. His
daughter Dorothea, after leaving the Jewish banker, Viet, became
the mistress of Frederich von Schlegel, and he only crowned their
union with marriage after many years. She paid a severe penalty
for her relations with him in the eyes of the world. She went
over to Catholicism to please him, and became not only a Catholic
but a bigot. She made a number of literary efforts, but later on
exchanged the pen for the needle. "There are," she said, "too
many books in the world, but I have never heard that there are
too many shirts."
Mendl.sohn's other daughter also went over to Catholicism
And his grandson, Felix Mendelsohn, the world-famous composer,
was brought up in the faith of the Church. His father, Abraham
Mendelsohn, had him baptized in early childhood. Felix Mendel-
sohn married the daughter of a Lutheran pastor.
