"Liners accepted from responsible firms or persons by NEW YORK, (JTA)-Jews in Iran and Afghanistan live un- der dificult conditions and suf- fer from certain restrictions al- though in Iran they are "equals among equals" under the law and have not been subjected to outright official persecution, a study revealed by the World Jewish Congress establishes. The study, prepared by Dr. Nehemia Robinson, director of the WJC Institute of Jewish Affairs, says that in Iran there are today about 80,000 Jews. Of these, one percent are wealthy, 10 percent are in the middle class and about 30 per cent "eke out a precarious living." The re- mainder live tar below the min- imum existence levels of even the extremely low Iranian stan- dards and "desperately need as- sistance." -From the founding of the State of Israel through June 1, 1952, about 25,000 Iranian Jews have emigrated there, the study shows. - In Afghanistan, c o n d it i o ns are even worse, according to the study. The Jewish popula- tion of about 5,000 live precari- ously, with many children never daring to leave the courtyard of their houses. Nearly 2,000 Afghanistan Jews have reached Israel during the period from the lifting of the emigration ban in 1950 through May, 1952: Report Drop in Anti - Semitism The family of the late Rernard W eiss- 18264 Parkside acknowledges with grateful appreciation the kind expressions of sympathy extended by their relatives and many friends duiing their recent - bereavement.
