Israel Repulses Raids
By Jordan Infiltrees

TEL AVIV, (JTA) - A series
of armed attacks on Israeli vil-
lages in the central part of the
country was carried out last
week, it was announced here by
a military spokesman, who said
that all of the raids-which he
said bore a "military technique
of a strategic operation" - were
repulsed by Israel defense forces.
T h e spokesman emphasized
that the attacks "must have
been carried out after extensive
preparations." A large quantity
of ammunition and explosives
were found after the Ar a b s
withdrew. It is believed that the
raiders planned to blow up a
number of buildings. Israel has
called for an emergency meet-
ing of the Israel-Jordan Mixed
Armistice Commission.

Jordan attacked the That Ye-
hudah settlement, near Petach
Tikvah. Heavy fire was directed
at settlers' homes and the raid-
ers tried to throw hand gre-
nades into the buildings. Israel
security `forces forced the at-
tackers to retreat.

Jordan Accuses Israel
Of Armistice Violation

TEL AVIV, (JTA) - The Is-
rael-Jot-clan Mixed ArmistiCe
Comniission considered a Jordan
charge that Israel had violated
the armistice agreement in an
act of aggression in the Beth
Lechem area.
The Israelis denied the charge,
but agreed that the Commission.
should undertake an immediate
on-the-spot inquiry, as had been
suggested by Jordan. The meet-
ing was chaired by Maj. Gen.
Vagn Bennike, United Nations
truce chief.
A spokesman for the Israeli
Army charged that highly
trained Jordanian para-military
units are carrying out raids in
Israel. He revealed that during
the last three weeks l a r g e
amounts of military equipment
has been stolen from Israel
Army stores. In one case, more
than 10,000 rounds of ammuni-
tion was stolen.
An Israeli military spokesman
announced that Arab-infiltrees
had attacked three Israeli vil-
lages near the Jordan border.
One Arab was wounded and
captured during the attacks and
the others were driven off. No
Israelis were hurt. The spokes-
man revealed that on July 17
an Israeli police patrol came
upon an Arab gang in the
southern Negev and drove it out
of Israel territory, inflicting
four casualties.

Thousands Mark Tisha Wab
At King David's Tomb

JERUSALEM, (JTA) - Thou-
sands of Israelis and large num-
bers of American Jewish youths
visiting Israel marked Tisha
b'Ab by visiting King David's
Tomb on Mt. Zion where they
prayed and listened to eulogies
of the 6,000,000 Jews martyred
by the Nazis in Europe.
In the evening, after the fast
was broken, a ceremony was
held under an arch near the
tomb. During the ceremony 12
Torahs were capped with 12
c r own s, representing the 12
tribes of Israel. A cornerstone
was taken from Mt. Zion to
Ramat Gan to be placed on the
foundations of the first build-
ing to arise at the Bar nail
University, sponsored by t h e
Mizrachi Organization of
America.
