Arab Leader in Israel Proposes
Arab-Jewish Minorities Exchange

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—The proposal that Arabs in Israel
be
exchanged for Jews in the Arab countries was advanced here by
Haj•aher el Tabari, Arab leader in Nazareth. • He pointed out that
since peace between Israel and the Arab states is not expected
soon, the Arab minority in Israel and the Jewish minorities in
Arab lands should be exchanged, thus relieving them of the per-
manent fear - under which they live.

WHEN JOE

GINSBERG was
traded to Cleveland, he took
along with him his pet story
. told to him about a famous
manager who had a dream that
he had 'gone to Heaven .. . Up
there behind the Pearly Gates
he saw the greatest baseball
players of all time and just
couldn't resist the temptation
to form a team . . Then the
question arose of arranging a
schedule . . He was trying to
puzzle. that out when the phone
rang . . . It was the devil . .
"I have a team that can beat
yours," Satan told him . . .
"Impossible," answered the
manager. "I've got all the great
ball players that ever lived.
How could you expect to beat
me?" . Replied the devil,
"I've got all the umpires." (If
we know Tribe General Man-
ager Hank Greenberg, that story
will soon be the talk of the
baseball world.)

THE FIRST GROUP of camp-
ers sent out to Camp Tamarack,
a unit of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, consists of 44 girl
campers, ages 12 to 15, accord-
ing to Walter Farber, who ac-
cepted the invitation of being
the first director at the Holly,
Mich., site . . . With 631 acres,
beautiful lakes on its grounds,
as well as several orchards,
Camp Tamarack has five mod-
ern cabins that each house nine
campers and one counselor . .
All told, it has six counselors,
a caretaker, two cooks and sev-
eral others who make the camp
a well functioning unit of our
Detroit Jewish community . .
The name Tamarack is taken
from the original name, Tama-
r a c k Hills, where Tamarack
trees were so plentiful . . . The
closest we can get to a Jewish
origin of the name is Tamruck,
which means "ointment" in He-
brew . Farber is a teacher
at Mumford High School and
director of Bnai Moshe Sunday
School.

Eichmann, Notorious
Murderer of Jews,
Seen in Middle East

FRANKFURT, (JTA) —

Eichmann, the notorious Pales-
tine-born German who directed
the extermination of Jews in
Germany, Austria, Czechoslova-
kia, Poland and Hungary under
the Nazi regime, is now some-
where in the Middle East, a com-
panion of the ex-Mufti of Jeru-
salem, according to a report
published in the press here.
The report quotes a German
engineer as stating that he saw
Eichmann, together with the
ex-Mufti, clambering out of a
derailed Pullman car of the Da-
mascus-Baghdad express last
November. In charge of a
switch-construction job nearby,
the engineer invited the travel-
ers from the overturned car into
his quarters. Among the German
passengers who identified them-
selves were Eichmann, SS Major
General Katzman - who during
the German occupation of Po-
land was in charge of the exter-
mination of Jews in Galicia,
and a number of other high-
ranking Gestapo officials sought
as war criminals.

LITTLE JANET LINDEN came
running into the house one
morning, last week, sobbing . .
Throwing herself into her moth-
er's arms, she cried, "G o d
doesn't love me any in o r e,
mommy!" . . . "Why, Janet
dear," said Mrs. Julius Linden,
"Why do you say that? . God
loves 'everyone." . . . "No,
mommy. He doesn't love me,"
wailed the little lass. "I know
He doesn't. I tried Him with
a daisy."

SIDNEY ROSEMONT actually
purloined a sign from a small
hotel in Illinois that reads, "Do
not take lady friends up the
back stairs. They have just
been painted." . . . Sidney, who
maintains a fervent hobby of
collecting signs, has a notice
that was posed up near the
newsstand of an inn at Roches-
ter, Minn., (home of the Mayo
Clinic) that begs, "Please do
not discuss your operation in
the lobby." .' . . We tried, last
week, to get him what was cer-
tainly the most elegant piece of
sign language extant today in a
Chicago hotel adorning the
bootblack stand at the Morrison,
where we called on a friend . . .
The sign (which we failed to
get) read, "Your pedal habili-
ments artistically lubricated and
illuminated with ambidextrous
facility for t h e infinitesimal
remuneration of twenty- five
cents per operation."
