GENEVA, (JTA)—The United Nations Economic and Social Of Hog Raising in Israel
Council has voted to recommend the continuation of the Office
of UN High Commissioner for Refugees for another five years.
The Soviet and Polish delegates cast the only opposing votes.
High Commissioner Dr. G. J. Van Heuven Goedhart had
recommended continuation of the office for from three to five
years. He told the Council that the refugee problem would con-
tinue for many years. Originally , his office was set up to aid the
•
refugees for a three-year period.

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—The Is-
rael Knesset has referred to
committee a proposal to com-
pletely ban the raising of hogs
in Israel. The vote came after an
announcement by Trade Minis-
ter Dr. Peretz Bernstein that the
Cabinet had restricted pig grow-
ing to a certain area—reported-
ly the Nazareth district.
The demand for a total ban
on hog raising was made by
deputies representing the reli-
gious parties after Dr. Bern-
stein, replying to a long-pending
question in Parliament, revealed
the limitation. From the number
and variety of questions raised
during the _heated debate that
followed the Minister's reports,
observers here believe that the
entire question will again have
to be considered by the Cabinet.
