"So, if we drop the "mill-
stone" of pre-Christian 'reve-
lation into the sea, - we shall
down all Christianity with it.
Ours is not a Christian but a
Judaeo-Christian civilization.
If, b e c a u s e, of racial prej-
udice, we repudiate the
Jewish element in our re-
ligion, we' shall destroy our
faith entirely. Without Abra-
ham, Isaac, Jacob, the Law of
the Prophets, the Gospel is
unintelligible.
"We don't merely philoso-

phize upon this theory. We live
on it as a fact. Priests, monks,
nuns who recite the Divine Of-
fice spend nine-tenths of their
prayer- time in repeating words
that were said and sung in the
Temple at Jerusalem and in
every synagogue throughout all
Jewry.
"Consider the names we give
to Catholic children. Mary is
Jewish, and Joseph and Ann,
and Elizabeth and Michael,
Daniel, David, Jeremiah, Ma-
lachy, James, John and as many
more as would fill columns of
this paper.
"Consider the Benedictus, the
Canticle of Zachary. It fairly
drips Jewishness. "Blessed be
the Lord God of Israel . .." who
"path raised up a horn of sal-
vation to us in the house of
David; the oath he ' swore to
Abraham our father." We say
t h e Benedictus a thousand
times a year. We say it over
the dying and at the edge of the
grave. And we understand' that
when we say "Israer• we are
Israel; when 'we say "House of
David," we mean the Catholic
Church,
"By the way, there is a 'myster-
ious episode in the life of Abra-.
ham in which he met Melchise-
dech, the king of Salem—that is
Jeru-Salem. Every priest is or-
dained "according to the order
of Melchisedech."
But the concluding para-
graphs in his article raise a
question: is the intent to prose-
lytize? Here is how he con-
cludes:
"Once, years ago, a Jewish
woman insisted that the argu-
ment from antiquity and un-
broken continuity fitted her re-
ligion better than mine. I ex-
plained • to her that her reli-
gion and mine were one. With-
