A program expected to attract
5,000 visitors to Israel in Sep-

tember was launched by the Is-
rael government at a reception
held at the Consulate-General
of Israel in New York.
Major international events,
high holidays and the best
weather season of the year are
the contribIlting factors in the
"September in Israel" campaign.
Mrs. Gita Pape, a special en-
voy of the Israel government
tourist department, is in the
U. S. to assist in the campaign
and to promote attendance at
the "Conquest of the Desert"
International Exhibition and
Fair, scheduled to open in Jeru-
salem on Sept. 22.
Also planned is the World
Jewish Olympic m e e t, the
Fourth Maccabiah, which will
open Sept. 20.

Honor Three Educators
At 1,000 Year-Old University

HANOVER, (JTA) — At the
celebrations marking the 1,000th
anniversary of Goettingen Uni-
versity, one of the high points
was the granting of t4e Univer-
sity's "honorary citizenship" to
three distinguished Jewish
scholars driven , out of Germany
when -Hitler came to power.
The three former members of
the Goettingen faculty, w h o
came back to receive the awards
from the city's Mayor, are 1925
Nobel Prize winner James
Franck, 71, now professor emeri-
tus of physiological chemistry
at the University of Chicago;
Prof. Richard Courant, born in
Poland 65 years ago, teacher of
mathematics at Goettingen from
1910 to 1933 and head of the
Mathematics Departm ent at
New York University since 1934;
and Max Born, 71, since 1936
Teit Professor of Natural Philo-
sophy at the University of Edin-
burg in Scotland.
