ESTES PARK, Colo., (JTA) —
Opposition to released-time in
public schools as well as to plans
to teach religion in classrooms
was expressed here at the an-
nual convention of the Central
Conference of American Rabbis
in a report submitted by the or-
ganization's Committee on
Church and State.
The Committee on Religious
Law urged support of the prac-
tice of deeding eyes to eye
banks after death in order to
restore the sight of blind per-
sons. The Committee empha-
sized in its report to the con-
vention that "the authorized re-
moval of eyes of a deceased per-
son in order to restore sight to
the blind is not an act of mutil-
ation. which is forbidden, but
an act of healing."
In other rulings, the Commit-
tee discouraged use of carillons
in synagogues since they a're so
closely identified with churches,
and frowned on the idea of con-
dUcting Bar Mitzvah ceremonies
on Sunday afternoons.

The plan for the integration
of the Cincinnati and New
York campuses of the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Insti-
tute of Religion was explained
at the convention by Dr. Nel-
son Glueck, president of the
institution for the training of
Reform rabbis. He asked sup-
port for the experimental plan
by which students will study
in the first two years in Cin-
cinnati and New York, the
next three years in Cincin-
nati, and do practical work in
New York after ordination.

A call upon American Reform
rabbis to establish closer ties be-
tween Liberal Judaism and the
people of Israel, was voiced by
Dr. Joseph L. Fink, president of
the Central Conference of
American Rabbis.
Dr. Fink also urged the rabbis
to aid the fight for revision of
the McCarran-Walter Immigra-
tion Act, to endorse the Na-
tional Community Relations Ad-
visory Council, to work for the
securing of increased financial
support for the national insti-
tutions of Reform Judaism and
to give maximum support to the
United Nations.
He also called upon the

"For any Congressman, in fur-
ious self-rectitude, to intimidate
clergymen with the threat of a
besmirching public investigation
of their sincerely held beliefs is,
I believe, an unprecedented vio-
lation of a Congressman's trust."
Rabbi Fink asked members of
the conference to register "dis-
approval of those legislators
who would seal the lips of those
prophetic clergymen who chas-
tise America when she breaks
faith with herself."
In urging closer ties between
Reform Judaism and Israel, Dr.
Fink stated: "I recommend that
we formulate and follow a pro-
gram of active communication
between the institutions and the
life of American liberal Jewry
and the people of Israel."

Dr. Harry M. Orlinsky, pro-
fessor of Bible at the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Institute
of Religion, stressed the need
for a new Jewish translation
