Seeks Members Thirty-six Michigan educators and community leaders have been awarded scholarships by the Detroit Round Table of Catholics, Jews and Protestants to study inter-group relations at leading universities across • the country. Persons who attend these centers are trained to work effectively in areas where there is tension between groups which differ in race, religion and na- tional origin. They study- the causes and effects of prejudice, its relation to mental health and its effects on 'national and in- ternational relations, and _learn Ways to promote good relation- ships among all groups in schools and commuinties. In the past 12 years these scholarships have provided the Michigan region with 160 train- ed leaders in the field of inter- group relations. Mrs. Donald Brondyke, direc- tor of education of the Detroit Round Table, announced that 20 persons from Detroit, Ferndale and River Rouge will be trained this surnmef. They include teachers, ministers, leaders of community councils, and police officers from the Detroit Police Department and the River Rouge Police Department. They will attend the follow- ing universities and colleges: Beth •Aaron Synagogue is in- itiating a campaign to enroll 200 new members in the synagogue before the High Holy Days, ac- cording to Harry Green, presi- dent of the congregation. The congregation, which re- cently completed its new ,build- ing, aims to enroll the maximum number of members it can ac- comodate before it _plans its official dedication later in the year. The new synagogue has facilities for a total membership of 600 families. Present member- Ship is 400 families. The membership campaign will be headed by Milton Weiss as general chairman, with Jack Shenkman, Sol Panush, Dr. Marvin - A. Last, and Mrs. Sidney Weinberg as co-chairman. Re-Elect Louis Berry to Seminary Committee Lois Berry, well-known local civic and communal leader and a- member of the board of over- seers of the Jewish Theological Seminary; was re-elected a co- chairman of the national plan- ning* committee of the Selnin- ary, the United Synagogue of America and the Rabbinical Assembly of America at the Seventh annual meeting of the group in New York. Berry is one of eight national co-chairmen who will spearhead an effort to interpret and devel- op the program of the Seminary to local communities, and to achieve accelerated support- for the work of JTS, USA and RAA. The 200 lay leaders from every part of the U.S. and Canada who attended the annual meet- ing adopted a national goal of $2,343,000 for the maintenance of the three major institutions of the Conservative movement in 1953-54. .
