"... The great hurt to our children is the thing that plagues
me most."

Julius Rosenberg

"Oh, how indescribably bitter it is to be separated from one's
children , . I am a vessel filled to overflowing with so much
sorrow, so much pain . ."

Ethel. Rosenberg
(from Death House letters)

DARE WE LET THEM DIE?

Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, young Jewish-American parents of two sons, Michael and Robbie, are scheduled to die
Thursday, June 18; at 10 P.M. in the New York State Electric Chair.

IF THE LIVES OF THE ROSENBERGS ARE TO BE SAVED, YOU
EISENHOWER FOR CLEMENCY!

ALONE CAN DO IT! APPEAL TO PRESIDENT

Only Presidential intervention can stay the hand of the execu-
tioner, and the President must hear your urgent and immediate appeal
for mercy.

WHY DEATH. FOR TIIE ROSENBERGS?

For the first time in American history, death has been decreed
for "conspiracy to commit espionage" — Even for the more serious
charge of actual treason, no person has ever been executed in peace-
time. Convicted traitors Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose each received 10
years, and key atom scientists Allan Nunn May and Klaus Fuchs got
light jail terms.

CAN AMERICA DEFY WORLD OPINION?

•4,,,

Outside the United States, the campaign for clemency for the
Rosenbergs has reached proportions never before witnessed in world
history. Press coverage, protests of foreign notables, and millions of
personal appeals have surpassed in scope even the pressures occa-
sioned in the Dreyfus Case.
America, haven for the oppressed and champion of tolerance
and liberty, cannot jeopardize her prestige among the nations of the
world by such an act of legal violen ce. Instead, we must urge our Pres-
ident to set an example of compassion and justice which will restore
the faith of untold millions.

"Dear President Eisenhower:

POPE PI US XII ISSUES THIRD APPEAL

"I saw on television Monday Mr. Oatis is-not in prison anymore
because the President of the country let him go. It said his wife wrote
a letter to the President over there and she told why Mr. Oatis should
be let go. I think it is a good thing to let him go home because I think
prison is very bad place for anybody to be.

In an unprecedented full page statement published in
L'Observatore Romano, official Vatican newspaper, his Eminence
Pope Pius XII detailed his reasons for his urgent, passionate ap-
peals for the lives of the Rosenbergs. The following is an excerpt
from this statement of the spiritual leader of 450 million Catho-
lics:

"My mammy and daddy are in prison in New York. My brother
is six years old his name is Robby. He misses them very much and I
miss them too. I got the idea to write you from Mr. Oatis on television.
Please let my mommy and daddy go and not let anything happen to
them. If 'they come home Robby and I will be very happy we will
.thank you very much.

"The death penalty is an extreme remedy which, no matter what the crime it aims to punish,
arouses in certain people a lively repsIgnance. More numerous even are those whose goodness
of soul causes them to dwell on the pitiful aspects of a punishment rather than its necessity,
however serious the crime that deserved it. Further, the case of the young couple sentenced
to die together is so pitiful as to arouse sincere commiseration even in those not animated by
an ignoble partisan interest in wanting -to save their lives. In particular, that a woman
should wait in a ''Death Chamber" for the moment of execution is in itself an event as tragic
as it is rare, and is such as to arouse instinctively a sense of horror. When, then, two children,
Michael 9 years old and Robert 5, are involved in this tearful fate, many hearts can be melted,
before two little innocents on whose soul and destiny the death of their parents would forever
leave sinister scars."

THERE MUST BE NO DOUBT!

With Justices Douglas and Black dissenting, the U.S.
Supreme Court has again refused to look into the facts of the
Rosenberg case. Despite new evidence which undermines the
basic contentions of the prosecution, no reviewing Court has re-
examined the testimony. However, the immediate issue is not
their guilt or innocence, or the vindication that time may bring.
The issue now is to save the Rosenbergs from the unjust,
un-American, unequal sentence of death. Even those who believe
them guilty urge commutation. Add your request for clemency
to the Hoed of appeals ... the President can and will hear YOU,
the voice and conscience' of the American people.

MICHAEL ROSENBERG"

WHY DON'T THEY CONFESS?

Three times in the shadow of death the Rosenbergs have
rejected government offers to commutation of sentence in ex-
change for their "confession." Could guilty people, parents,
choose to die? The Rosenbergs have steadfastly maintained their
innocence. Is this the statement of incorrigible traitors.?—

"Yesterday we were offered a deal by the Attorney General of the United
States. We were told that if we cooperated with the government our lives would
be spared.
"By asking us to repudiate the truth of our innocence, the.sovernment admits
its own doubts - concerning our guilt. We will not help to purify the foul record of
a fraudulent conviction and a barbaric sentence.
"We solemnly declare now and forever more that we will not be coerced even
under pain of death to bear false witness and to yield up to tyranny our rights
Os free Americans.
"Our respect for truth, conscience and human dignity is not for sole, Justice
is not some bauble to be sold to the highest bidder.
"If we are executed it will be murder of innocent people and the shame will
be upon the government of the United States.
"History will record, whether we live or not, that we were victims of the most
monstrous frame-up in the history of our country."

THERE IS NO APPEAL FROM THE GRAVE.

We Have Only
Until Thursday

President Dwight D. Eisenhower

should like to see a new trial granted to
the Rosenbergs. Such a trial would give much
information about this whole affair and would
be worth all the cost even if the verdict and
sentence were the same, because the cloud and
uncertainty of the present situation lowers our
confidence .in our own courts of law and because
such a trial would place us in a better position
in the light of world opinion."

The White House

Washington, D. C.

Dear President Eisenhower:

I wish to add my name to those who are asking that
you commute the death sentence of Ethel and Julius Rosen-
berg. In the interests of Justice and Mercy, I respectfully
ask for clemency in this case.
