JNF Tree Project
For Father's Day

The Detroit Council of the
Jewish National Fund an-
nounces that it is now prepared
to issue Tree Certificates in
honor of fathers on Father's
Day, which comes this year on
June 21. Certificates for trees
planted in Israel at $1.50 per
tree can now be ordered from
the JNF of f i c e, TO 8-7384;
through JNF tree chairmen of
affiliated organizations, or by
filling out and mailing the cou-
pon, which will be found else-
where in this issue of The Jew-
ish News.
" 'Honor Thy Father . . . ' by
planting trees in his name, and
at the same time helping in the
redemption of the soil of Israel,
has come to be looked upon as
the most befitting form of
showing devotion and respect to
parents," said William Hordes,
president of the Detroit Council,
who recently returned from Is-
rael. While in Israel, Mr. Hordes
participated in the planting of
several forests and groves, which
were made possible by Detroit
organizations and individuals,
made up by trees planted in
honor of fathers and/or moth-
ers, and whose names can be
seen on the records which are
kept in Jerusalem, and thereby
perpetuating those names, or
memories.
"The Jewish National Fund,
in providing this form of paying
respect to parents in their life
time", stated Mr. Hordes, "or by
perpetuating the memories of
parents, has helped raise the
standard of gift giving on such
occasions as Father's Day. Tree
Certificates provide an inner
satisfaction to the recipient of
the gift, adds dignity to the giv-
er, and helps the afforestation
of the land, which is so vitally
important to the redemption of
Israel's soil."
