given in Israel by Detroit's not-
ed soprano, Emma Schaver.
Mrs. Schaver remained in Is-
rael with her son, Isaac, to fill
a number of engagements in
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and a score
of settlements, after her hus-
band, Morris Schaver, was called
back to . this country by urgent
business. obligations.
Among the tributes to Mrs.
Schaver is the following from
the "Musical Diary" of the Jeru-
salem Post:
"Kol Zion L'Gola together

with the Kol Israel Orchestra
presented a special concert at
the YMHA on Saturday con-
ducted by Jacques Singer.
"The highlight was decided-
ly the soloist, EMMA SCHA-
VER (mezzo-soprano), well
remembered from her previous
guest appearances in 1948
(immediately after the siege
of Jerusalem) and in 1951.
With a noble timbre she de-
livered two Yiddish folk songs
in a deeply moving way, with-
out any false sentimentality.
Miss Sehaver was at the peak
of her power with songs read
in Hebrew. Bizet's irresistible

soldier—Leopold Newman—whom he commissioned a Brigadier

In the Spanish American War, in World War I World War II
and in the present Korean action, Jews have played an important
part in making certain that our flag keeps waving over the world's
stronghold of freedom.
On Sunday, remember that we are paying tribute to all men
of all races and creeds who have made many sacrifices to keep
Old Glory waving in the breeze.
And speaking of Old Glory, did you know that there is a lot
of talk about a New Glory? With our Congressmen talking about
admitting Hawaii and Alaska into our Union, making 50 states,
that means a new flag will have to be designed.
Here's one above, which is the idea of a Chicago artist. Per-
haps you have an idea that's even better. If you do, send it right
away to Uncle David and maybe we'll print it in this column soon.
And, if you have a special story you'd like to see printed or have
a question to ask, just mail that along too in care of this paper.
