Walter Schmier Re-Elected
To Head Suburban Temple
Walter Schmier was re-elected'
president of The Suburban Tem-
ple at the congregation's annual
meeting last week, at Burton
School in Huntington Woods.
The entire slate of officers
presented by the nominating
committee was elected unani-
mously by the congregants.
Joining Schmier in office will
B. H. Weil, Mannie Fishman
and Theodore D. Birnkrant,
vice-presidents; Richard Sid-
der, treasurer; Sanford Kaplan,
Dr. James Roe and Bertram
Kaatz, secretaries.
Nine individuals elected to the
board of trustees are Oscar
Band, Nathaniel W. Gold, Ben-
jamin Goldstein, Maxwell Jos-
pey, Bernard Lieberman, Mrs.
Daniel Mandlebaum, Richard I.
Orloff, A. Leon Pierce and Eu-
gene Sims.

ered the invocation. This was
followed by the president's re-
port, given by Schmier. Sanford
Kaplan gave his treasurer's re- I
port, following which Aaron
Nathan, nominating committee
chairman introduced the slate.
Following the election Theo-
dore Birnkrant, chairman of the
building .committee, and Mannie
Fishman, financial chairman, re-
ported on the status of the
building fund.
A check for $1,500 was pre-
sented to the fund by Mrs. Aar-
on Nathan, president of the Sis- I
terhood, and another check giv-
en by -Harry Kretchmer from
the bowling league.
Suburban Temple, which
serves the spiritual needs of res-
idents in the South Oakland
County and Northwest Detroit
areas, will soon begin building
its $450,000 structure on 10 Mile
Rd. between Coolidge and
Greenfield.

Services on Sunday
The annual graduation exer-
cises of the Temple Beth El
High School Department will be
held at 8:15 p.m., today.
Dr. Richard C. Hertz will give
the baccalaureate sermon. The
salutatory address will be given
by Evelyn P. Rogoff, and the
valedictory by Richard D.
Grauer. Members of - the class
will participate in the reading
of the service and scriptures.
Union Prayer Books, a gift of
the Men's Club, and diplomas
will be presented by David
Wilkus, president of the Temple.
Dr. Norman Drachler, educa-
tional director, will present
awards for the following: Felix
Wiesen Medal for meritorious
leadership, scholarship medal
for superior scholarship, activ-
ity keys for participation in
extra-curricular activities, John
Imerman Memorial Prize for
scholarship in the confirmation
class. Rabbi Minard Klein will
give the closing prayer and
benediction.
The annual consecration
service for confirthands and
their parents will be held in
con,function with the high
school graduation. A reception
will be tendered by Dr. and Mrs.
Hertz and Rabbi Klein in the
Memorial Hall after the service.
The confirmation service will
be held Sunday, 10. a.m. A class
of 60 boys and girls will be.con-
firmed. Dr. Hertz and Rabbi
Klein will officiate. Each con-
firmand will receive a Bible as
a gift from the Sisterhood.
Cong. Ahavas Achim, Schaefer
at Seven Mile Rd., has purchased
property north of the synagogue
to Cambridge Rd. The lot, 100
x 110 feet, and another lot pur-
chased preViously to the south
will be used to expand the syn-
agogue's facilities.
Included in the overall plan-
ning are a parking lot and new
building. Isadore Leeman, con-
gregation president, stated that
spearheading the drive for the
new accommodations were Alex
Kraft, Mrs. William Goodfriend
and Albert Burke, a • past presi-
dent.
Because of the growing mem-
bership of the synagogue, the
board of directors recently an-
nounced that seating on the
High Holy Days would be limited
to members and their immediate
families.
Registration is currently tak-
ing place for the Sunday school,
which now has 150 pupils. En-
rollment is taken daily at the
synagogue, 19190 Schaefer, UN.

A youth group, with 20 char-
ter members from 12 to 15, has
ben formed under the leadership
of Mesdames Ellis Rifkin and
Philmore Leeman. The group
meets at 8 p.m., each Tuesday,
in the synagogue.

This is a portion of the architect's perspective of the proposed
new Mikveh to be located on Dexter Blvd. Plans are being made
by a Mikveh Committee and the Council of Orthodox Rabbis for
construction to begin in the coming weeks. The rabbis state that
when completed this will be the most modern Mikveh in the
United States.

Annual Meeting

nounces that a general mem-
bership meeting and election
will be held at 8:45 p.m., Mon-
day at Mogen Abraham Syna-
gogue, at which time annual re-
ports will be submitted.
Guest speaker will be Rabbi
Chaim Rabinowitz of the Israeli
Welfare Ministry and author of
a new Bible commentary "Daas
Sofrim".
Vocal selections will be ren-
dered by Cantor Hyman Adler.
A student choral group will pre-
sent several numbers. Members,
annual contributors and the
public are invited to attend.
Rosenwald Post to Conduct
Memorial Services on May 31
Rosenwald Post of the Ameri-
can Legion will hold two memo-
rial services on May 31.
Post members will conduct
services with the American Le-
gion ritual and in Hebrew at
11:15 -p.m., at Machpelah Ceme-
tery, and at 2:30 p.m., at Ches-
ed shel Emes Cenetery.

Home for Aged will attend the
Dexter Theater's showing of the
"Jewish Melody," a new Yiddish
musical film, Sunday afternoon.
They will meet Chahn Towber,
the film's leading actor, who will
appear in person. The Service
Groups of the Women's Auxili-
ary of the Home will assist in
transporting and aiding the
folks to and from the movies.
