Synagogue Services, 'School Programs
To Mark Observance of Shevuot Holiday
Detroit Jews will • celebrate
Shevuot with special synagogue
services Tuesday evening, May
19, and Wednesday and Thurs-
day, May 20 and 21. The holi-
day, first celebrating the ap-
pearance of the first fruits of
summer, also is traditionally ob-
served as the time when Moses
brought forth the Ten Com-
mandments.
All religious• s c h o o l s have
planned appropriate c e le b r a-
tions, and many synagogues
h o 1 d commencement exercises
at this time. Following is a list
of Sabbath and Shevuot services
scheduled by our congregations:
Cong. Bnai Moshe
At Saturday services, the Bar
Mitzvah of Victor Stern will be
observed. Shevuot services will
begin at '7:30 p.m., Tuesday, with
morning 'services scheduled for
8:45 a.m., Wednesday, and 8:30
p.m., Thursday. Yizkor prayers
will be recited Thursday.
Rabbi M o s e s Lehrman has
chosen for his sermon topics
"Moments of Greatness" and
"Accepting the Gifts of Life."
Cantor David Katzman will of-
ficiate.
Downtown Synagogue

Beth Aaron Synagogue
At Saturday services, the Bar
Mitzvah of Larry Silets will be
observed. Shevuot eve services
begin at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, with
evening services the other days
at 6:30 p.m. Morning services
are at 8:45 a.m.
Rabbi Benjamin It Gorre-
lick will preach on "The
Meaning of Sinai for Modern
Men" and "May God Remem-
ber: A Legacy for-the Living."
Cantor Judah Goldring will
chant the liturgical music.
At Yizkor services on Thurs-
day a scroll of law will be pre=
sented to the synagogue by Mrs.
Rebecca Panush in memory of
her recently departed husband,

by William Hordes, president of
the Detroit Council of the Jew-
ish National Fund, at a meeting
culminating JNF Blue-White
Box activities, at 8 p.m., May 25,
at Beth Shmuel Synagogue.
The 'meeting, held under the
auspices of the JNF Blue-White
Box Committee, will pay tribute
to the Blue-White boxholders
and volunteer workers who have
participated in the spring clear-
ance and/or placement of JI∎I'F
boxes. A prominent national
leader will also address the
meeting, and a program of Is-
raeli and Jewish music will be
rendered by Cantor Judah Gold-
ring and Mrs. Goldring.
Hordes, who with Mrs. Hordes,
has just returned from a six-
week tour of Israel, participated
in several important conferences
involving the immediate and
vital interests of the state. He
has also visited strategic posi-
tions in the Negev. In his report
Hordes will disclose new infor-
mation -which bas already placed
the JNF in a position vital to
the future security of the Jew-
ish state.
Awards and recognitions will
be given to the volunteers who
have placed or cleared the lar-
gest number of Blue-White boxes,
and the presentations of a
Golden Book inscription will be
made to the first boxholder in
the country whose box held
$100 in this spring clearance.
