ATLANTIC C I T Y, (JTA) —
Numerous resolutions dealing
with important aspects of Jew-
ish life in this country and
abroad were adopted at the re-
cent three-day conference of the
Jewish Labor Committee, at
which • Adolph H el d was re-
elected president.
The conference, attended by
several hundred delegates from
all parts of the country, de-
cided to raise $1,200,000 for its
work this year.
The program for the coming
year includes greater effort to
obtain fair employement legis-
lation in states and cities, as
well as intensified activity for
the revision of the McCarran
Immigration Act. The Commit-
tee advocated resumption of dip-
lomatic relations between Israel
and the Soviet Union, declaring
that it would continue to co-
operate with Israel in strength-
ening its position as a bulwark
of democracy in the Middle East.
Other resolutions adopted by
the JLC, which represents $500,-
000 organized Jewish workers in.
the United States, called for the
ratification by the United States
Senate of the United Nations
convention outlawing genocide,
and the return of the American
Jewish Committee and the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai
Brith to the National Commu-
nity Relations Advisory Council.

. The delegates adopted a re-
solution expressing strong dis-
approval of the celebration
plans of the American Jewish
Tercentenary Committee
which is arranging for the
celebration of the 300th anni-
versary of settlement of Jews
in the United States.. The
Committee charged that the
Tercentenary group has
"slighted" the importance of
the contribution of labor and
East European Jews to Ameri-
ca in planning the anniver-
sary celebration.

and Jewish literature, all of
which have over the years be-
come' an integral part of the
achievements of the American
people."
The 'Jewish Labor Committee
indicated that it would remain
as part of the existing tercen-
tenary committee, but would in
addition, conduct its indepen-
dent observance.

In another unanimou sly
adopted resolution, the JLC
called upon the American Fed-
eration of Labor and the Com-
mittee of Industrial Organiza-
tions to begin a concerted ef-
fort "to drive Communists and
Commlmist sympathizers from
those unions in which they
are still in power.

Officers of the Jewish Labor
Committee, in addition to Held,
are Nathan Chanin, chairman
of the administrative commit-
tee; Jacob Pat, executive secre-
tary; David Dubinsky, treasurer;
and Benjamin Tabachinsky, na-
tional campaign director.

President's Message
President Eisenhower lauded
the activities of the Jewish Labor
Committee in the following mes-
sage sent to convention:
"On this 300th anniversary of
the first Jewish settlement in
America, the dedicated work of
the Jewish Labor Committee as-
sumes special dignity and mean-
ing. You notably helped to
arouse the conscience of the
free world to the recent terrible
evidences of anti-Semitism in
Eastern Europe. We must be for-
ever vigilant against the resur-
gence of any such evil. The in-
dignation with which all free
men have condemned such per-
secution is matched by the sym-
pathy which they extend to all
who suffer it. Your work in ral-
lying moral and material aid to
the persecuted commands the
respect and thanks of all who
cherish their own freedom."
Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chair-
man of the Jewish Agency ex-
ecutive, in a message to the con-
vention, lauded the Jewish La-
bor Committee for the "great
help" it gave him and his col-
leagues in working out the rep-
arations pact with Germany.
Greetings were received from
Israel Ambassador Abba Eban.
Joseph Bernstein and Dr.
Shmarya Kleinman represented
Detroit at the convention.
