lishment of the state of Israel
at the Young Israel Center.
Rabbi Shimon Ephrati of
Jerusalem will be the guest
speaker. He is a descendent of
many generations of scholars
and rabbis in Poland, and is
known for his own learning and
leadership. During the Hitler
regime, he was a refugee in
Russia. He became famous for
his organization of aid and
moral strengthening of those
who fled the Nazis and found
themselves in Communist con-
centration camps and far-flung
corners of hopelessness in Sib-
eria. , At the close of the war,
he was chosen Chief Rabbi of
the remnants of the Warsaw
Kehila.
As a religious Zionist, he was
one of the leaders of the move-
ment which took the Shearit
Hapleta from Europe and
brought them to Israel. In Med-
inat Yisrael, where he now
makes his home, Rabbi Ephrati
is one of the top leaders of the
Yishuv, especially:. in the field
of education through Mifaal
Hatorah. Last year the Israeli
government delegated him to
visit Warsaw on an important
mission for the Chief Rabbinate
of Israel.
The musical portion of the
program will be presented by
Cantor Judah Goldring, who
will include Tefilot and Israel
songs among his renditions.
There is no admission charge,
and there will be no solicitations.
The public is invited.
