Call New York Conference to Plan Events for Tercentenary Celebration

The first national planning
conference of the American Jew-
ish Tercentenary Committee will
be held April 11 1 and 12 at Hotel
Commodore,,, :10w York. It will
be the first- full meeting Of the
national tercentenary committee

United States.
The conference will open with
a dinner Saturday. Business ses-
sions Sunday, will begin at 10
a.m., and will continue through
the day, highlighted by ,a con-
ference luncheon.
Ralph E.- Samuel is chairman
of the American Jewish Tercen-
tenary Committee.
Speakers at the dinner will in-
clude Dr. David de Sola Pool,
Rabbi of Cong. Shearith Israel,
which was founded in 1654; Al-
bert M. Greenfield; Dr. Selman
A. Waksman, 1952 Nobel Prize
winner in Medicine and Physio-
logy; Dr. Oscar Handlin, 1952
Pulitzer Prize winner for history,
and Herman Wouk, Pulitzer
Prize winner for the best novel
in 1952, "The Caine Mutiny."
The Sunday business session

will include reports and discus-
sion on membership, nomina-
tions, program • policy, finances,
religious and educational activi-
ties, research and publications,
and special projects.
The conference luncheon will
be addressed by Leon H. Key-
serling, former chairman of the.
President's Council of Economic
Advisers; Dr. Israel Goldstein,
president of the American Jew-
ish Congress, and Judge Joseph
M. Proskauer, honorary presi-

dent or the American Jewish
Committee.
Members of the Tercentenary
Committee 421 'Jut) have been in-
vited by the board of trustees
and the Tercentenary -Commit-
tee of Congregation Shearith Is-
rael to attend sabbath services
at the Spanish and Portuguese
pynagogue, Central Park West
and Seventieth Street, New York.

cuse, N. Y., Allen was educated
in the Utica (N.Y.) Free. Acad-
emy.
President and chairman of the
board of Allen Industries, which
he helped develop here, Allen is
one of the well known indus-
trialists in America.
He • was married to the former
Phyllis Zuckerman on Dec. 16,
1919. They have one son, Jay
Warren,- who was born March 1,
1930.
Allen is a ,member of Congre-
gation Shaa'rey Zedek, is a di-
rector of Temple Beth El, Jewish
Home for Aged and Sinai Hos-
pital and is a member of the
national board of the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee.
He is a member of the Detroit
Board of Commerce, Franklin
Hills Country Club, Standard
Club, Beverly Hills (Calif.) Club
and Great Lakes Club.
