Halevy, Circle Groups
To Combine Talents
For May 3 Concert

Two singing groups in the
community will form one great
choral society to present its first
joint concert at 8:30 p.m., May
3, in the Detroit Art Institute
auditorium.
Under the direction of Dan
Frohman, prominent singe r,
composer and conductor, the
Halevy Choral Group and Work-
men's Circle Chorus will per-
form the works of many com-
posers, and will feature Yiddish,
Israeli, English compositions as
well as music from operas, op-
erettas, and oratorios.
The 130-voice choir will be ac-
companied by a large ensemble
of Detroit Symphony. Orchestra
members. Rebecca Frohman and
Bella Goldberg will • accompany
the' chorus on the piano.
Following the DetrOit concert,
the entire group will leave for
Cleveland where the program
will be presented in that city's
Severance Hall on May 17, with
assistance froin the Cleveland
Symphony.
Plans for the combined group
also include a trip to New York
in 1954 when a similar concert
will be presented in Carnegie
Hall.

MRS. ROBERT WHITE

Speaking their marital vows
before Rabbi Moses Lehrman in
a ceremony March 28. at the
Park Sheraton Hotel, were El-
eanore Dorothy Goodman and
Robert White.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Good-
man, of Zanesville, 0. He is the
son of Mrs. Louis White. of New
York C i t y, and the late Mr.
White.
' The bride wore a princess
style gown of coronation blue
taffeta and white chantilly lace.
A bertha of the lace dropped
over the taffeta bodice to form
a tiny sleevelet. Gauntlets of
matching :lace finished the bod-
ice, from which dropped a panel
of lace from the back of the
neckline to the end of the ca-
thedral train. Her princess style
skirt dropped over padded hips
and a hoop. -
Her veil of matching blue silk
illusion fell from a coronet of
chantilly lace in three finger-
tip-length tiers. Her bouquet was
camelias and cascading ivy.
Ilene Tova Olken was maid of
honor, and bridesmaids were
Marjorie Cowan and Jody Orn-
stein. Donald Weinblatt, of Chi-
cago, was best man, and the
bride's brother, Jerome Good-
man, was head usher. Seating
the guests were Murray Born-
stein and Walter Landauer, of
New York, Panos Galidas, of
Syracuse, N. Y., and Joseph
Wehrer, of Ypsilanti, Mich.
Following a dinner and recep-
tion, the couple left for a wed-
ding trip to Bermuda. On their
return, they will reside on Third
Ave., iri Highland Park.

of Roselawn Ave., announce the
engagement of _their daughter,
Joan Frances, to Merton M. Col-
burn, son of Mrs. Esther M. Col-
burn, of Cortland Ave., and the
late Mr. Harry Colburn.
The couple plans an October
wedding.

The Bar Mitzvah of Shafer
Stollman, son of Rabbi and Mrs.
Isaac Stollman, of 8624 LaSalle,
will be observed on April 11, at
Cong. Mishkan Israel. The boy
will lead services and read the
week's portion of the Torah.
An open house reception will be
held in Shafer's honor from 4
to 6, and 7 to 9 p.m., April 12,
in the family home.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mitnick,
of 20230 Stansbury, announce
the Bar Mitzvah of their son,
Mitchell Lowell, on April 11, at
Cong. Mogen Abraham. A buf-
fet supper in his honor will be
held that evening, in the: May-
fair Room.

The 1953 world-wide Jerusa-
lem Examinations for proficieni-
cy in Hebrew will be held April
12, in cities- throughout the
United States, announced Ju-
dah Lapson, secretary of the
World Union for Jewish Educa-
tion.
The examinations, given un-
der the joint auspices of the
Hebrew University- of Jerusalem
and the World Union, are simi-
lar to the Cambridge Proficiency
Examinations in English which
have for - .many many years
served as a standard for Eng-
lish proficiency in non-English
speaking countries throughout
the world.

Last Thursday and Friday
evening, M u m f or d thespians
thrilled audiences with a fine
performance of "The Man Who
Came to Dinner." A large bou-
quet of red roses was presented
to Miss Dorothy Patterson, fac-
ulty director, after the final
curtain. The Thursday east was
tendered a party by Harriett
Davis and Barbara Levin. Fri-
day's cast was the guest of Bob
Segar.

Another actor at Mumford . is
'student teacher, Sheldon Slavin,
who had the lead in the Wayne
University Theater production of
"Hamlet." And an excellent job
he did, too, during the play's
five-night stand.

With April 15 not far away,
parents of students planning to
take the senior trip to Wash-
ington, D.C. met at Beth Aaron
Synagogue to plan such things
as clothing, curfew time, sight-
seeing and chaperons. The trip
is scheduled for April 15 to 18.

results of the senior elections,
which were held last week.
Heading 12A activities will be
John Owen, president; Tobye
Davidson, vice-president; Gloria
Jaffe, secretary; ' and Geri Pri-

tees are now being formed, with
the picking left to Franklin
Henshaw, 12A sponsor, and .class
officers.

Nine murals adorn the halls
of Central. All are the work of
prominent Michigan artists, who
were commissioned by the Mich-
igan Consolidated Gas Co., in
celebration of its 100th anniver-
sary. The paintings represent as-
pects of Michigan's history as
they happened during the past
century. The murals will remain
at Central for three weeks be-
fore being sent to another
school.

French club members attend-
ed a dinner at Chadsey high
School last week, at which a
true Parisian atmosphere pre-
vailed. Everyone spoke in
French. A group of dancers from
the Central group took part in
a dancing exhibition which fol-
lowed dinner.

The engagement of Rita Mar-
lene Selman to Marvin Kenneth
Dictor was recently announced.
Miss Selman is the daughter of
Mrs. Samuel Selma.n, of Meyers
Rd., and the late Mr. Selman.
His parents are the Herman
Dictors, of Indiana Ave. A fall
wedding is planned.
