Brazilian Reds
Follow Moscow Line

RIO DE JANEIRO, (JTA) —
Emulating the Moscow policy of
purging Jews from high posi-
tions in the Communist Party,
the Communist Party of Brazil
has expelled from its ranks
Maurice Grabois, who was secre-
tary general of the party for
many years. Grabois was a
member of Congress and was
considered one of the top Corn-
munist leaders in the country.

H A I F A, (JTA) —The Hebrew
Institute of Technology an-
nounced the expansion of its
academic staff and invited ap-
plications for vacancies for 16
professorships and a large num-
ber of posts for lecturers and in-
structors.
The need for additional facul-
ty members reflects both the in-
crease in the students at the
Technion, as well as the plans
for expansion of the Technion
at its new site on Mount Car-
mel. Two departments which the
Technion will open in the near

future, aeronautical engineering,
and agricultural engineering,
both contain openings, but there
are vacancies in other faculties
and departments as well, includ-
ing hydraulics, architecture,
electrical engineering, mechan-
ical engineering, mathematics,
physics, chemistry and other
areas of study.

Theological Seminary Recommends
Formation of National Beth Din

A proposal to establish a Na-
tional Beth Din which would
function as a court of domestic
relations to deliberate problems
of marriage, the family and di-
vorce, has been recommended
to the faculty of the Jewish
Theological Seminary of Amer-
ica and to the full membership
of the Rabbinical Assembly of
America when it meets at its
annual convention, June 22-25.
The recommendation emerged
from a special Joint Conference
on Law, held at the Seminary
in New York, at which nearly
200 members of the Rabbinical
Assembly and members of the
Seminary faculty were partici-
pants.

The unprecedented conference
was called to consider problems
relating to the Jewish law of
marriage and domestic rela-
tions, with a view toward deter-
mining methods of preserving
the integrity of family life and
of strengthening family rela-
tions in accordance with the
standards of Jewish law' and
tradition.
