Rubiner Issues Federation Appeal To Synagogues for Drive Support Samuel H. Rubiner, president of the Jewish Welfare Federation, called on rabbis of all congregations in Detroit to include a "message of emergency" in their Passover services. In a letter to the rabbis he said: "As the Passover. holiday season approaches we move more swiftly towards the manifold activities of the 1953 Allied Jewish Campaign. This year, the plight of the Jews behind the Iron Curtain means that quick and concerted action is needed. "Once again we request your cooperation in order to bring a message of emergency to your congregation. The dollars that I are provided through the Allied Jewish Cam- paign will mean aid to the Jews of Eastern Europe, aid to the Jews of North Africa, aid to Israel and aid for our own community projects whose work must be continued un- abaited. "We ask that you include in your sermon a message to your congregation explaining the need_ for contributions to the Campaign and request that pledges be made this year to the fullest degree'possible." Eisenhower Greets Denver Jewish News In a message of congratula- tions to the Intermountain Jew- ish News, of Denver, on its 40th anniversary, President Eisen- hower wrote: "Your anniversary comes at a time when freedom of the press is but a bitter memory in- many parts of the world where Jewish people are again struggling against ruthless oppression and tryanny. This should emphasize anew to all of us the need to maintain the tradition of a free and• courageous press, which has been one of the chief glories of American journalism." The President also greeted Robert Gamzey on his 10th an- niversary as editor of the paper.
