AJC. Women Sign Contract to Build
Israel Youth Hostel for Mrs. Wise

P Contracts were signed in New
York for construction of the
first youth hattel in Israel. The
building, • which will be ded-
icated' to the memory of Louise
Waterman Wise, founder and
lifetime president of the Ameri
can Jewish Congress Wonien's
Division, will be. completed by
Aug. 1, near Jerusalem.
The hostel, which will pro-
vide accommodations for resi-
d e n t, students
and young peo-
ple attending
special c o nfer-
ences, as well as
for cultural and
recreational
programs, is in-
tended to aid in
the development
of youth leaders
Mrs. Wise and to serve as
a center for the entire youth
movement in Israel, as well as
r a model for future youth cen.-

ish physicians expressed "shock
and horror" at the Moscow
charges against fine doctors,
six of whom are Jews; .of com-
plicity in the death of top Soviet
leaders.
The doctors, in a resolution
adopted at a dinner-meeting of
the physicianS division of the
United Jewish Appeal of Greater
New York, saw in the charges
a 'threat against all Jewish doc-
tors in the Soviet Union and
against Jews everywhere.

72 - year - old Orthodox Jewish
woman, the mother of his World
War II pilot. She is Mrs. Max
Freedman of Wilkes Barie, Pa.
When Chief of Staff, Presi-
dent Eisenhower wrote to Mrs.
Freedman about his interest in
her son, Jerome. Now 34, Jerome
is assistant manager of Saks
Fifth Avenue store in Mianii
Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Freedman
set out on a trip to Florida to
visit Jerome ten weeks ago but
Mr. Freedman died . en • route.
A f ter the mourning period,
President Eisenhower, through
contact with another son of the
family, Seymour, of Washington,
invited Mrs. Freedman to the
White House. So Mrs.. Freed-
man, Seymour and Seymour's
wife called at the White House
and were warmly greeted by the
President. He reminisced about
- Jerome and comforted Mrs.
Freedman and the members of
the family on the death of their
loved one.
Mrs. Freedman left the White
House with an autographed
photograph of the President. Her
only regret, she said, was that
her husband was • not alive to
participate.

The Israel Parliament passed
a land acquisition bill giving the
government legal authorization
for the seizure of lands during
the War of Liberation and the
period immediately after, The
bill provides for a schedule of
payments to owners of the land.

HUC Hostel in Israel

Plans for the establishment of
a Hebrew Union College House
in Jerusalem, offering dormi-
tory, study and worship • facia-
tiet for visitingstudents, fac-
u l t y and alumni, were an-
nounced by Dr. Nelson Glueck,
president of the - Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of Re-
ligion. The project has the en-
dorsement of Israel government
officials and the board of gover-
nors of the College-Institute,
Dr. Glueck said.
