Congressman John D. Dingell,
in a statement which he incor-
porated in the Congressional
Record, reaffirmed his faith as
a "Christian Zionist" and made
this declaration:
"Mr. Speaker, one of the great
thrills of my life came to me
when I heard the announcement
that President Harry S. Truman,
on behalf of the people of - the
United States, extended - recog-
nition to Israel, the new infant
state in the family of nations. It
was a thrill and an inspiration
because it meant the fulfillment
of God's promise to His wander-
ing children.
"It strengthened me in my
Christian faith and the belief in
the existence and the word of
the living God. The miracle
that is Israel, denied to millions
of Jews who went on before, I
was privileged to witness and
applaud. As a Christian Zionist I
hoped and prayed for the day
when the Jews would come into
their own but never dreamed
that the word would become
real and the Holy Land become
the haven of the oppressed Jews
of the world.
