Reading of Megillah to Usher
In Services, Festive Parties

One of the Scriptures' most
exciting stories will be retold by
Jews throughout the world at
synagogue services and home
celebrations on Saturday night
and Sunday.
Purim, which celebrates the
deliverance of the Jewish people
from Haman, the vizier of an-
cient Persia who wanted all men
to bow down to him, is a spiri-
tually significant holiday which
is told in the Book of Esther.
The story - will be narrated this
weekend in the following syna-
gogues and schools in the com-
munity:
Cong. Beth Aaron
Concluding late Friday _service
will be held at 8:30 p.m., today,
with Rabbi Benjamin H. Gor-
relick conducting the service
and Cantor Judah Goidring and
choir officiating.
In honor of Purim, Rabbi
Gorrelick's Saturday sermon
topic will be "Laughter Through
Tears—The Nature of Jewish
Humor." Following services, a
program of Jewish humor; "Can
You Top This," will be present-
ed, and there will be commun-
ity singing of holiday songs.
Purim services are planned for
6:45 p.m., Saturday; and 8 a.m.,
Sunday.
A masquerade party will be
held for religiouS • school pupils
at 10 a.m., Sunday, sponsored by
the Men's Club and Sisterhood.
Entertaining the children will be
Milky, the TV Clown, Superman,
Hal and Corky, ventriloquists,
and the Beth Aaron chorus, di-
rected by Cantor Goldring.
A Purim parade will be pho-
tographed by Sam Lankin, and
the movies later will be shown
to the children.
Temple Israel
The choir of Temple Israel
and the Sisterhood choral group
will devote sabbath services to-
day to a Festival of Synagogue
Music, in celebration of Jewish
Music Month. Cantor Robert
Tulman and Karl Haas, temple
organist, will be featured.
Rabbi Leon Fram will preach
the sermon on "The Melody of
Praise."
A reception following the
service will be given to honor
Cantor Tulman, Haas and the
members of the choir, who are
Shoshana Friedman, Bella Gold-
berg, Leo Magill, Irving Rosen-
berg, Rhoda Shames and Odell
Small.

sent a Purim operetta, read the

Adas Shalom
The Adas Shalom branch cele-
brated the holiday with a Purim
playlet. Participants were Shir-
ley Novetsky, Sheilah Williams,
Alan Leirenstein, Miriam Bank,
Michael Reitman, Patricia Cole-
man, Marlene Soverinsky, and
Jeffrey Tigay. Community sing,
ing and a children's march por-
traying the characters of the
Megillah rounded out the pro-
gram.
Schaefer
A Purim workshop arranged
by the PTO was held by the
Schaefer branch, to acquaint
parents with the history and
customs of the holiday. A Purim
assembly was held Thursday for
the students, ,and on Sunday a
play will be presented by the
dramatic group.

Bnai Moshe
The Bnai ,Moshe branch held
a Purim mask and costume con-
test, with prizes presented by
the P.TO for original dress. Com-
munity singing, a play, and a
Megillah quiz were also on the
program. The annual PTO
party will be Wednesday.
Central branch held its cele-
brations jointly with Bnai
Moshe.
Linwood
A student Purim altembly at
the Linwood branch featured
the reading of the Megillah and
community singing. At 11 a.m.
Sunday, the dramatic club will
present a p 1 a y, with prizes
awarded for best costumes.
