Stork Pays Sinai
A Premature Visit

The stork turned postman
this week when he made an un-
scheduled- special delivery at
Sinai Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Roby, of
20145 Lauder, were on their way
to Women's Hospital, but
thought it best to detour to
Sinai where a baby girl was de-
livered to Mrs. Roby in the hos-
pital's emergency room, at 10
p.m., Tuesday.
It was a case of double Pre-
maturity, since the Roby's
daughter was not expected for
five weeks and the hospital's
obstetric department is not
scheduled to open before April.
Little Miss Roby thus became
the first baby to be born in
Sinai, the new Jewish Hospital
in Detroit.
After the unexpected time out,
Mrs. Roby and her baby contin-
ued their trip to Women's Hos-
pital, via special ambulance,
where both mother and daugh-
te
reported doing well.

Foods to Remember

By LEAH W. LEONARD

Here is a recipe for a differ-
ent kind of dough for easily
in a d e Hamantaschen, quickly
baked and best served freshly
made:

Cream Cheese Hamantaschen Dough:
1 cup softened butter or substitute
1/2 pound cream cheese, softened
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups all purpose flour, sifted
Combine softened butter or substitute
(margarine or vegetable shortening) with
the softened cream cheese and sift into
this the salt and flour, a little at a
time till well blended. Chill the ball
of dough in the refrigerator overnight.
When ready to bake, pinch off small-
balls of this dough and roll out on a
lightly floured cloth or board to form
3 or 4 inch rounds as thin as desired.
Place a little ball of the following filling
in the center of each round and bring-
together the outer' edges to form the
three-cornered Hamantasche, pinching the
seams from the center down. Brush with
milk or cream (or evaporated milk)
when all the filled pasteries are on
cookie sheets and bake 12 minutes at
350' F or till lightly browned. The
cookie sheets need not be greased, but
using a sheet of aluminum foil over the
bottom facilitates easy handling when re-
moving the pastries.
Poppyseed Filling: -
1 cup fine poppyseed
3 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
3 tablespoons dry, fine erumbs (cake
or bread)
A pinch of salt
Combine all ingredients in a bowl fond
let stand one hour before using.
Nut Filling:
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons fine crumbs
Combine all ingredients and chill $0
minutes before using.
Lacqua Filling:
1 cup Lacqua (thick plum Jam, also
called Povidle)
2 tablespoons fine crumbs
3 tablespoons ground almonds
Combine ingredients and use as filling.
This recipe yields approximately 5 dozen
Hamantaschen; depending on size.
