Congress Women Plan Wednesday
Rally to Spur Wise Ball Efforts

The fourth in a series of con-
certs planned by the Center
Symphony Orchestra will be pre-
sented at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, in
the Davison Jewish Center.
Featuring symphonic music of
Jewish composers in celebration
of Jewish Music Month, the con-
cert will be conducted by Julius
Chajes. Sponsors of the event
are Detroit Chapter, National
Council of Jewish Wonen and
Dora and Julius Gredr Founda-
tion, Music Study Club.
Soloists will be Harvey Siegel,
concertmaster of the orchestra
and a member of the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra, and Judith
Leaders in the Detroit Women's Division, American Jewish Patterson, a student of Chajes

Center Activities Roll into High Gear

Activities of - Jewish Commu-
nity Center organizations are in
full swing this weekend.
A whiter camping weekend
will be attended by members of
mothers' clubs of the Jewish
Community Center today
through Sunday at Tamarack
Hills, the 600-acre land tract
purchased by the Jewish Welfare
Federation to provide camping
opportunities for various groups
in the community.
A doubles handball tournament
is set to start at the Center Sun-
day. Entries are being accepted
by Artluir Rubenstein, basket-
room clerk.
"Atom Smashers" is the name
of the JCC's new science • club.
Elected officers are Barry Le-
vine, president; Carl Kamen,
secretary; and Ronnie Bortman,
publicity chairman. Permanent
leader of the club is Mayer Su-
brin, Wayne medical student. -
A Purim Party will be held at
8:30 -p.m., Feb. 28, at the Davi-
son branch. It will include a
carnival. Feature attraction will
be a "Purimschpeil" c a 11 e d
"Guys and Dolls of JPI," and re-

man of the annual Purim Mas-
querade Ball, to be held at 8:30
p.m. Marbh '7 in the Broder au-
ditorium of the Davison branch.
It is sponsored by the Jewish
Community Center Council of
Mothers Clubs.
Tickets will go on sale this
weekend for the -Purim Carnival
at 3:30 p.m., March 8, sponsored
by the Teen-Age Council, of the
Davison branch. AZA and Bnai
Brith Girls groups will occupy
booths. Dancing to an orchestra
will be from 5 to 8 p.m.
Enrollment in a ceramics class
for teen-agers is now open at
the Davison branch. It will be
held Monday and Thursday eve-
nings. Session will begin March
1. The class will be open to only
20 students.

"Rhapsody" by Arkadie - Kougu-
ell, a Hebrew folk song arranged
by Jerusalem's Shabtai. Petrush-
ka, and Meyerbeer's "Coronation
March" from "The Prophet,"
which will open the Wogram.
This program will conclude
the Center's series of five Music
Month events. The public is
invited to attend.

morial Building, 163 Madison, on
Tuesday, it was announced this
week by Robert R. Marwil, presi-
dent. Since 1943, the organiza-
tion has been located at 9134
Linwood.
A Sunday office will be main-
tained by the association in the
Jewish Social Service Bureau
office, 13327 Linwood, with hours
from 9 a.in. to 12 noon. The
downtown office will function on
week days from 9 aim. to 4 p.m.
Ma-rwil also announced the ap-
pointment of Mrs. Lily Abramo-
vitz as the organization's secre-
tary. Associated with Federa-
tion for 11 years, she , will
take over the duties of Mrs. Ida
B. Colten who resigned after 21
years in that office.
Incoiporated on Dec. 11, 1895,
the Hebrew Free Loan Associa-
tion has provided continuously
for the needs of distressed mem-
bers of the community, regard-
less of race, nationality or re-
ligion. No interest is ever charg-
ed on an association loan.
During the past 10 years, a
total of $764,120 has been loaned
to individuals.
Beginning with Michael Davis,
the first president, the organiza-
tion has listed many prominent
Jews as its leaders, including
Isaac Shetej, Selig Koploy, Mor-
