from Czechoslovakia reported
that Jews in that country
hardly dare to appear in
public and that buildings are
plastered with signs: "Hang
the Jews" and "Jews Are
Ruining Czechoslovakia."
An ,Hungarian refuge e,
whose name is with-
held, stated that the "oppres-
sion- of Jews in Hungary is
now worse than under the
Nazi regime."

A leader in Beth Shmuel ac-
tivities, Mrs. Roth was also a
member of Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah and Yeshivath Chach-
mey Lublin, Chesect shel Emes
and Mizrachi. She was active
in supporting and mustering
support for two orphanages in
Israel.
Born in Russia in 1881, Mrs.
Roth came here in 1923 with her
husband. She leaves her sons,
Fred and Sam; daughters, Mrs.
Fanny Rosen. Mrs. Mary Beltz-
man and Mrs. Esther Berman;
and 14 grandchildren.

Hadassah Mourns Lois
Of Mrs. Ruth Fromenson

Mrs. Ruth B. Fromenson, 73,
one of the founders in 1913 of
Hadassah, • died in New York
after an illness of 15 months.
Mrs. Fromenson worked with
Henrietta Szold, first national
Hadassah president, in helping
to establish the organization,
which now numbers 300,000
members.
Chapters of Hadassah in every
state in the Union and Alaska
and Puerto Rico are outgrowths
of sewing groups, formed by
Mrs. Fromenson to send lay-
ettes to Palestine.
The late leader served from
1915 to 1940 as chairman of Ha-
dassah's Bureau of Palestine
Supplies, during which time over
4,000,000 items of medical sup-
plies, clothing, drugs and hos-
pital equipment were sent to
the Holy Land.
Mrs. Fromenson, a native of
Rochester, N. Y., leaves three
sisters and a brother, all of New
York. She was the wife of A.
Harmon Fromenson, former
public relations director • of the
Zionist Organization of Ameri-
ca, who died in 1936.
