Allied Campaign Reaches
Accord on Budgeting Plan
- Budgetary planners for the 1953 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign emerged from last Sunday's all-day conference, at the
Davison Jewish Center, with the most solid agreement of
unity ever arrived at in Detroit for the raising of funds to
meet the Israel and overseas, local and national needs. Sun-
day's conference was outstanding in the annals of com-
munity planning for the spirit of amity and the confidence
which animated it. The feeling of the 100 participants, who
represented the local agencies and the causes included in
the campaign, was that the 1953 income . will exceed by far
the $4,400,000 sum raised in 1952, and thus will make it
possible for overseas needs to be cared for more adequately
and to obtain increases urgently needed for local and na-
tional causes.
Spurred to action by the new emergencies that have
been created by Soviet anti-Semitism and by the perse-
cution of Jews in Moslem countries, the campaign leaders
displayed keen anxiety for unbreakable unity to achieve
the maximum result on behalf of the unfortunates who
must be rescued and in support of the agencies that make
up this community.
The formula arrived at Sunday, as introduced by the
steering committee, of which Max Osnos was chairman, was
that, on the premise that $4,500,000 will be raised, the sum
_ of $2,319,708—the same as in 1952—will go for Israel and
overseas needs; $1,108,790:--$10,000 less than last year—
for local operating funds; $415,958-, the same amount as last
year, for loCal capital funds, and $163,148--$10,000 more
than last year—for national agencies.
Mr. Osnos, who declared that "we shall go much over
the $4,500,000 figure in this year's campaign," stated that
in . the event $4,950,000 is raised—and there was the ex-
pression of confidence that even this figure will be exceeded
..--Israel and overseas needs will be apportioned $2,605,000;
local causes, $1,175,000; local capital funds, $457,531, and
national agencies, $190,462. The formula arrived at is being

Warning of Danger to Israel Calls for
Speedy Mobilization of Public Opinion
American leaders in all walks of life warned this week that unless there is immed-
iate action to forestall the spread of the fantastic Communist anti-Jewish campaign the
lives of 2,500,000 will be in grave danger.
The spread of Communist anti-Semitism to all countries- in the Soviet orbit and
the new dangers now facing Israel from Egypt and other Arab lands have placed Jew-
ish leaders on the alert. General Naguib'sthreats of Palestine's "liberation", the snip-
ings on Israeli soldiers by Jordanian military groups and the derailing of an Israel
freight train, have combined to create added anxiety.
A relieving feature in the threatening situation created by the new Communist
purge of Jewish residents behind the,Iron Curtain is the condemnation of the Soviet
policy by President Eisenhower, in his message to the American Jewish Committee,

Zionist Council Warns of Arab Threats

NEW YORK—The primary danger of the new Communist attack on Zionism and
on Jewry as a whole lies in the intensification of the hostility to Israel already present
in the neighboring Arab states, the American Zionist Council declared Tuesday in a
new document, "Public Opinion on the Prague Trial."
Analyzing the implications of the trial and its aftermath, the Council, public re-
lations arm of all Zionist groups in the United States, warned that "there is every in-
dication that the Arab states may be emboldened by the new Communist propaganda
line to become even more intransigent" and that "Anti-Israel forces everywhere will be
given new impetus in their campaign to liquidate Israel by political means."
The Council emphasized that much will depend on the attitude of the United
States. "A new outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East, or even the continuation of
the existing tension, can only serve Moscow,"
the Council said. "The intentions of the Kremlin
