The Vaad Horabonim of De-
troit this week made public the
text of a telegram, sent to Max
Osnos, • president of Sinai Hos-
pital, expressing' its shock that
the hospital's board, at a meet-
ing on Jan. 19, has reached a
decision to adhere to its original
decisions not' to turn the entire
hospital into a kosher, institu-
tion and to limit itself to the
kosher kitchens for those ex-
pressing preference for kosher
food.
- The rabbis' telegram states
that the Sinai board's deciSion
"has been a profound shock and
fills us with deep sorrow." It
states that after prolonged ne-
gotiations the rabbis felt "quite
certain" that 'their "minimum
proposals would be accepted"
and "this would have meant a
solution with honor and dignity
for all concerned."

ISTANBUL, (JTA) — Rabbi
Raphael Saban, 72, has been
elected Chief Rabbi of Turkey,
filling a post that has remained
vacant since 1931. Rabbi Saban
served as secretary to the Turk-
ish _ Chief Rabbi in the latter
part of the 19th century. For
the last 15 years he has been
president of the Religious Coun:-
cil of the Grand Rabbinate,
Turkish Jewry's representative
body. '-

Kindergarten Consecrants
Kindergarten children at the
Adas Shalom religious school
will hold their fifth consecration
service on Feb. 21, in conjunc-
tion with regular sabbath serv-
ices. •
The program will include a
presentation of religious songs
by the youngsters, greetings by
N. R. Epstein, president, a mes-
sage and benediction by Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal and songs by
Cantor Nicholas Fenakel and- the
choir.
Miniature Torahs will be given
to all. students. The class con-
sists of 65 consecrants.

board are that all who ask for
,kosher food should be provided
