Hamisha. Asar Tree Planting
To Bring 'Harvest' for JNF

The hearty response to ap-
peals for tree planting in Isra-
el through the Jewish National
Fund on Hamisha Asar b'Shvat
is expected to bring a "harvest"
for the JNF, William Hordes, lo-
cal JNF president, stated this
week.
Mr. Hordes pointed out that
while in past years most of the
Hamisha Asar income came
from the ,children in Jewigh
schools, in addition to individ-
ual contributions by tree plant-
ers, this year's income is ex-
pected to be augmented con-
siderably by the appeals to be
made in many local synagogues.
All synagogues have been asked
to participate in the Hamisha
Asar action by the Agudath
Horabonim of the United States
and Canada.
Pupils of the Tillie Feldman
Memorial Religious School of
Cong. Beth Moses will plant
trees in Israel in observance of
Hamisha Asar b'Shvat. High-
lighting the holiday, there will
be a party from 10 a.m. to 12
noon, Sunday, at the school.

Elect Five Detroiters
To JUC's Board

Five Detroiters have been
elected to the board of direc-
tors of the Joint Distribution
Committee, major American
agency for aid to distressed Jews
abroad, announced Moses A.
Leavitt, JDC executive vice-
chairman.
Elected to repeat terms were
Louis Berry, member of the
board of governors of the Jew-
ish Welfare Federation; Theo-
dore Levin, president of the
United Jewish Charities, Nate S.
Shapero, member of the Federa-
tion board; - Henry \ Wineman,.
member of the Federation exec-
utive committee; and Mrs. Jos-
eph M. Welt, former interna-
tional President of the "Council
of Jewish Women.
Other Detroiters serving on
the JDC Board are Sidney J.
Allen, Maurice Aronsson, Clar-
ence H. Enggass, Julian H. Kro-
lik, Meyer L. Prentis and Abra-
ham Srere.
The Joint Distribution Com-
mittee is supported in . Detroit
through the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign.

Name Sobeloff to Board
Of Federation Fund Council

Isidore Sobeloff, executive di-
rector of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, has been re-elected
to the board of directors of the
Council of Jewish Federations
and Welfare Funds, it was an-
nounced by Julian Freeman of
Indianapolis, CJFWF president.
Julian H. Krolik, treasurer of
Federation, and Samuel H. Ru-
biner, Federation president, are
also Detroit members on the
Council board. Both were named
in previous elections.

dent, will present the Sunday
School check to Irving W.
Schlussel, of the Jewish National
Fund. -
At another observance, dedi-
cated to the celebration of Tu
b'Shvat, held at Cong. Bnai Is-
rael, $750 was raised_ for the
JNF. The affair was given by
Mr. and Mrs. I. Faxstein and
Mr. and Mrs. John Heyman, and
the proceeds presented to Wil-
liam Hordes of the JNF.
Trees may be planted by call-
ing the JNF office, 11816 Dex-
ter, TO. 8-7384.
Rabbi Leizer Levin, at 9 p.m.,
Saturday, will be chairman of
the Tu b'Shvat program ar-
ranged by Agudath Israel Syna-
gogue, 11331 Linwood. Speakers
will stress the significance of the
holiday and the JNF tree-plant-
ing program.

Local Organizations

The formation of the Chaim
Weizmann Society has been an-
nounced by two local groups
who have merged to organize
this new group, named after the
late first President of Israel.
Consolidating their efforts are
the Radomer Friendly Society
and the Chordorkover - Chabna
Progressive Society, 19 and 17
years-old, respectively.
Both groups, named after
home cities in Poland, decided
to give up their names when it
was learned recently that there
are no more Jews left in either
city.
An election held recently
voted into office Louis Rosen-
berg as first president. He will
be assisted by Jennie Sherman,
vice-president; Peter Beitman,
treasurer; Fannie Sherman and
Louis Bogrow, secretaries; and
J. Weiner, Harry Glaser, B. Carp,
Gussie Brown, S. Cohen and
Meyer Sherman, executive com-
mittee.
Other . committee chairmen
will include J. Joyrich, member-
ship; Mrs. A Weston, Fannie
Better, H. Leichook, A. Turner
and H. A. Davidson, health and
welfare; J. Fingerhoot, Leon"
Risher, Sam Cohen and J. Joy-
