Maddin Elected to Head
Masonic Temple Ass'n.

Milton M. Maddin, Detroit at-
torney and leader in many Jew-
ish philanthropic and civic ac-
tivities, has been elected presi-
dent of the Masonic Temple As-
sociation. He is the first Jew to
be elected to this office.
The association owns, controls
and operates the Detroit Ma-
-sonic Temple,
the largest in
the world, and
composed of
r e p resentatives
from every Ma-
sonic body that
,owns and occu-
pies any portion
of the building.
Maddin also is
secretary of the
association's
Maddin
:wilding fund.
His Masonic affiliations include
the Michigan Sovereign Consis-
tory, Moslem Shrine and Per-
fection Lodge, F. & A. M., of
which he is a past master.
Active in Jewish community
affairs, he is currently president
of the Fresh Air Society and
member of the board of gover-
nors of the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration and the Detroit Service
Group. He is a past president
of the House of Shelter and also
serves as president of the
Standard Club. He is a member
of the Detroit, Michigan and
American Bar Associations.

Folk Schools to Observe

A program honoring the ob-
servance of Hamisha Asar
b'Shvat will be held by the
United Jewish Folk Schools on
Thursday. Recitations, songs
and sketches will be featured.
Children will also plant trees in
Israel through the Jewish Na-
tional Fund.
The holiday will mark • the
close of the school's first semes-
ter. Registration for the second
term is now in progress. Begin-
ners, advanced and nursery
classes now have openings.
Transportation to the school
is furnished, and classes include
the study of Hebrew speech, Bi-
ble, literature, composition in
Jewish and Hebrew, history and
related subjects.

The Sisterhood. of Adas Sha-
lom Synagogue will observe its
annual special Sabbath at 8:30
p.m.. today. The entire service
will be dedicated to members of
the Sisterhood.

In place of a sermon, a panel
will discuss "How Beautiful Is
Our Heritage"—with special em-
phasis on the . history and. the
meaning of the sabbath. Par-
ticipants will be Mesdames Mor-
ris Botwin, Joseph Katchke and
Marvin Levy. Mrs. Herbert L.
Hartis will offer greetings as
Sisterhood president.
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will of-
ficiate and introduce the speak-
ers. Cantor Nicholas Fenakel
will chant, assisted by the Youth
-Choir. Participating in respon-
sive reading will be Mesdames ,
Max Biber, Saul Brenner and
Jules Kraft.
An open forum and discussion

the social hall. The community
