Gestapo leader, Horst Valte, who
once had charge of the Warsaw
Ghetto, has been put in charge
of the East German secret po-
lice's section dealing with Jews,
the Sunday Chronicle reported
in a dispatch from its Berlin
correspondent. The correspond-
ent added that Valte has been
instructed directly from. the
Kremlin, to widen his purge to
include all Jews classified as
capitalists.

AJ Congress Rally, Monday, to Hear

Mrs. Ravin stated that Tues-
day's. program will be featured

gresswoman Helen Gahagan
Douglas, who before her election
to Congress from her California
District was a noted Broadway
star. Mrs. Douglas, who is the
wife of movie star Melvyn Doug-
las, recently returned from a
tour of Israel as a member of
the American Christian Pales-
tine Committee study tour group
and visits in Egypt and Cyprus.
Like her husband, she takes a
deep interest in Israel's up-
building.
The program will include vo-
cal selections by Norman Atkins,
TV and Decca recording artist,
who has made several appear-
ances with the New York Phil-

Dr. Israel Goldstein, national
president of the American Jew-
ish Congress. will address a city-
wide meeting at Congregation
Adas Shalom, 7045 Curtis, Mon-
day. 8:30 p.m.
In his address, "Jewish Perils
and Opportunities," Dr. Gold-
stein will refer, among other
subjects, to the withdrawal of
the Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith and the American
Jewish Committee from the Na-
tional Community Relations Ad-
visory Council. He will attempt
to define the concepts of "Vol-
untarism" and "Democracy" as
they pertain to Jewish com-
munal life in America.
William Cohen, president of
the Michigan Council of the
American Jewish C o n gr e s s,
which is sponsoring this address,
stated that the issue is not sim-
ply the field of community re-
lations but concerns our concep-
tion of the future of Jewish life
in America.
Rabbi Morris Adler, of Con-
gregation Sha,arey Zedek, will
introduce Dr. Goldstein. Rabbi
Jacob Segal of Congregation
Adas Shalom will welcome those
present on behalf of the syna-
gogue.

program chairman, in charge of
arrangements for this meeting,
announced that there will be a
reception following the address.

of America; former president of

America; a founder- of Brandeis
University; honorary president,

held many other important

Austrian Group Seeks Ban
On 15th Century Murals
VIENNA, (JTA) — The Aus-
trian League for Human Rights
has appealed to Pope Pius and
other Catholic officials to re-
move from Tyrolean churches
tablets and paintings depicting
alleged Jewish ritual murders of
the 15th century.
Although the Pope has not yet
replied to the request, Bishop
Rusch of Innsbruck has turned
down the appeal in a letter in
which he said the "Jews have
not yet proved they never did
such things."
