served on the community rela-
tions committee of the Council,
which he also served as chair-

of directors of the Detroit Serv-
ice Group, and is a- former of-
cer .of Detroit Lodge, Bnai Brith.
Center Checker Club Plans
New Year's Eve Party
A New Year's Eve party and
dance, sponsored by the Jewish
Community Center's Chess and
Checker Club, will be held from
9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Dec. 31, at
the Davison Center.
Music will be provided by
Carlos Rivera and his Cosmopol-
itans, and there will be a re-
freshment counter set up at the
affair. Tickets are on sale at • the
Davison, Woodward and Twelfth
Street Centers.

Financial Statements
Arthur K 1 e i n, treasurer of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah, this
week announced that during the
first half of the current fiscal
year, beginning June, the Yesh-
ivah reduced its debt by $4,500.
The stabilization of the YeShi-
vah budget is due to increased
income from t u i t i o n., syna-
gogues, memorial scholarships,
dues and annual contributions,
the treasurer's report indicated.
Mr. Klein's report was prepared
for the monthly meeting of Beth
Yehudah directors, to take place
next Tuesday, at Congregation
Bnai Israel, Linwood and Leslie.
The total income for the per-
iod covered by the report was
$83,191.44, including: students'
fees, $19,359.12; Jewish Welfare
Federation gran t, $11,374.98;
contributions from individuals
and groups, $50,432.34. Major
expenditures: $45,991.47 teach-
ers' salaries; $5,447.34 transpcir-
t ation of students; $6,795.88
maintenance of buildings and
$2,485.11 lunch room. School af-
fairs and supplies, $1,479.61; ad-
ministrative and office salaries
$12,076.35.
Mr. Klein pointed out that the
Beth Yehudah schools are still
burdened by Indebtedness of
$76,477.76. The bulk of this
amount — $37,132.91 — repre-
sents accrued salarieS.

seventh. annual institute of the
Women's Division, Jewish Wel-
fare Federation, will take place
on Jan. 28, at Temple Israel, an-
nounced Mrs. John C. Hopp,
president of the Women's Divi-
sion.
Mrs. William P. Greenberg is
program chairman with respon-
sibility for planning major ev-
ents of the division. Members
of her committee are Mesdames
Eli Gross, Joseph G. Fenton,
John C. Hopp, Harry L. Jackson,
Harry L. Jones, Sidney J. Karbel,
Raymond A. Sokolov and Leon-
ard H. Weiner.
Mrs. Joseph G. Fenton, vice-

sions on Israel, the child, health,
