Warmth Given Sinai Hospital
Settings by Color Schemes

Color schemes ; intended to .
blend attractiveness of design
with warmth of feeling, have
been introduced into the new
Sinai Hospital, which is sched-
uled to begin to function within

three weeks. The hospital is
bounded by Outer Drive, Lauder,
McNichols and Whitcomb.
Five major decorative schemes
, have been utilizd by Kahn As-
sociates, Architects a n d Engi-
neers, designers of the hospital.
Sol King, of the Kahn As-
sociates, who guided that gigan-
tic construction operation, sel-
ected 26 colors, manufactured
by' Mac-O-Lac Paint and Var-
nish Works, for use in the hos-
pital. All colors were prepared
by Mac-O-Lac chemists in co-
operation with Mr. King.
The paints were thoroughly
tested for repeated washability,
color retention . and durability,
according to Walter L. Field,
head of 'Mac-O-Lac. Mr. Field
pointed out that most /of the
patients' rooms were painted
with Mac-O-Lac Kolorfast Flat,

Center Schedules
Holiday Youth Series

A series of events have been
scheduled by the Davison
Branch of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center for _ juniors and
,tesal-agers during the holiday
vacation. Some of the programs
are the following:
Dec. 24—"My Father's House,"
a full-length film from Meyer
Leviii'§ story on Israel will be
offered at 1 p.m., at the Davison
Center. Admission, 25 cents.
Dec. 25—Open house from 1
to 4 p.m., featuring all games
and ping-pong, and the use of
all Center facilities.
_Dec. 26--"Day Camp Reunion"
from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring the
Gary Jenning's puppet revue in
"The Snow Queen."
Dec. 29—Gym and swimming
is planned, with a special bus
leaving the Davison Center at
1:15 p.m. for the Woodward
Bldg. Round trip fare is 25
cents.
Dec. 30—A full-length movie,
"Chico," about a Mexican boy
and his pets will be shown at 1
p.m., followed by a Maccabiad.

"I am proud to have had the

Sinai Hospital," Mr. Field said.
"Naturally, we are flattered to
have been selected by Kahn As-
sociates to treat the, new Jewish
hospital's color scheme."
Dr. Julien Priver, director of
the hospital, commenting on the
color schemes, said: "My eye
is pleased, and I believe all will
be pleased with the color selec-
tions. I am certain the color
selections will please patients,
doctors,- staff and guests."
Mr. King explained that the
color schemes were designed to
soothe the restless, to create
restful settings, to introduce a
variety of. effects which . should
provide cheer for patients and
the best environment for doctors
and nurses to work in.

Dr. N. Court Honored
With Membership in
Mark Twain Society

Honorary membership in the
International Mark- Twain
Society was accorded to Dr.
Nathan Court, .a retired pro-
fessor of mathematics at Okla-
homa University. Dr. Court is a
brother of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard
Shiller, of Holcomb Ave., Detroit.
Dr. Court was granted mem-
bership in recognition of his
"College Geometry" textbook,
a volume that was written in
1925, and has - been used by
many colleges to this date.
Since his retirement last year,
following 35 years of teaching,
Dr. Court has revised his original
text. The new edition contains
an "Historical and Biographi-
cal Notes" section. Tie book
has been so widely circulated
that copies are printed in Chi-
nese for use in that country.
As a member of the Mark
Twain Society, Dr: Court joins
such other distinguished honor-
ary members as Albert Einstein,
T. S. Eliot, Upton Sinclair, Lord
Louis Mountebatten, Mar y
Roberts Rinehart, President-
Elect Dwight D. Eisenhower and
Thomas E. Dewey.
Committee chairman in fields
in which the society operates
include Carl Sandburg, poetry;
Norman Rockwell, art; King Leo-
pold- of Belgium, entomology;
Mary Pickford, cinema; Jean
Sibelius, music; and Helen
Keller, essay.
