Feature Young Choir

Rabbi Isserman to Talk
At Beth El Services

A children's choir of 50 voices
will sing at the Hanukah family
Sabbath eve, service of Temple
Israel at 8:30 p.m., today. Direc-
tor of the choir is Mrs. Joseph
Yanich. Included in its program
will be ancient holiday melodies
as well as new songs from Israel.
Rabbi Leon Fram invites mem-
bers to bring their young chil-
dren to the service for this occa-
sion. The Sisterhood will serve
refreshments at the end of the
worship hour.
Rabbi Fram will preach on
"The Heroes of Religion." In all
the religious school assemblies
on Saturday morning, there will
be Hanukah plays, pageants, and
films.

Dr. Ferdinand M. Isserman,
Rabbi of Temple Israel, St.
Louis, Mo., will preach on "The
Jewish Jesus and the • Christian
Christ" at the sabbath eve serv-
ices of Temple
Beth El, at 8:15
p.m., today.

Union College. He is a forther
president of Hebrew Union Col-

sity of Missouri and Rabbinical
Association of St. Louis; chair-
man of the commission on so-
cial justice and international re-
lations of the World Union for
Progressive Judaism, and former
chairman of the commission of
justice and peace of the Cen-
tral Conference of American
Rabbis. He was recently voted
a, life tenure by his congrega-
tion.
Rabbi Isserman visited this
summer in the West Indies as a
member of the expedition from
the American Jewish &chives
of the Hebrew Union College in
search of new material on the
settlement of the Jews in the
United States, the 300th anniv-
ersary of which will occur in
1954.

Beth Aaron Youth to Meet 1

to pay tribute to Rabbi and Mrs.
Leo Goldman, who are celebrat-
ing the fifth anniversary since
their arrival in
Detroit.

ner to be held at 6 p.m., Jan.
4, at Cong. Bnai Moshe. Cantor
Nicholas Fenakel and the Adas
Shalom choir, Joseph Segal and
Jack Lefton will participate in
a musical program.
Rabbi Goldman, a graduate of
the Zevihl, Vohlin Yeshivah, was
formerly chief rabbi of Norway,
and is now spiritual leader of
Congregations Adas Yeshurun
and Shaarey Zion.
He served in the army during
World War /I, and after his dis-
charge received a degree from
Wayne University. Also a grad-
uate of Vilno University, he is
currently taking post-graduate
work at Wayne.

The family of the late Anna
Kay wishes to thank its rela-
tives and friends for the many
kind expressions of sympathy
extended during its recent be-
reavement.

Beth Aaron Young Adults will
hold its third annual member-
ship brunch at 12:30 p.m., Sun-
day, in the synagogue. Dues can

Adas Shalom Service
To Honor Youth Groups

Adas Shalom Synagogue will
dedicate its late service at 8:30
p.m., Dec. 26 to the youth group
affiliates of the congregation.
Members of the Young People's
Club, including students at uni-
versities in the area, will 'par-
ticipate in the service, as will
the Hi-Teens and intermediate
youth. groups.
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will
speak on "Crisis Equals Danger
Plus Opportunity — a Challenge
to the Youth of Our Day." Can-
tor Nicholas Fenakel, assisted
by•'-a special youth choir, will
chant the services.
An oneg shabbat will follow
services in the social hall, fol-
lowing which• youth group mem-
bers will discuss the evening's
topic, with Rabbi Segal as mod-
erator. Community singing and
folk dancing will conclude the
program.

Honor New Students
At Beth Aaron Service

Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick
will officate at a ' special in-
itiation service for new pupils
in the Beth Aaron Branch,
United Hebrew School at sab-
bath services Saturday.
Students who have begun
courses at the school this year,
together • with their parents, will
participate in the service. A
Special prayer will be 'chanted
by Cantor Judah Goldring.
This sabbath also marks the
inauguration of the synagogue's
junior congregation, which will
continue each Saturday morning
for children 9 to 13. The junior
congregation has been planned
by Rabbi Gorrelick and Alex
Roberg; principal of the Hebrew
School branch.
Israel Tuchman, of the Heb-
rew School, will lead the congre-
gation, and Hyman Margolis will
be the synagogue's chairman.
Cantors to officiate at services
are now being trained by Cantor
Goldring.

Fire Temporarily Halts
D. W. Simons Activities

A fire which broke out Nov. 29
in the rear - of the D. W. Simons
Center on Tuxedo and Holmur,
has temporarily halted activities
at this branch of the Jewish
Community Center. •
Repairs are currently being
made, and it is expected that
the building will be ready for
use again in six weeks. Mean-
while, the playschool has been
