Itzhak Ben Zvi Takes Oath
JERUSALEM, (JTA) Itzhak
Ben Zvi, Israel's second Presi-
dent, was sworn in on the last

A number of honors were con-
ferred on Jews in many com-
munities during the past week,
chief among which was the re-
election of Rabbi Morris Silver-
man as chairman of the Con-
necticut State Commission on
Civil Rights. Also in Connecti-
cut, Meriden attorney, David J.
Jacobs has been re-elected ed-
itor-in-chief of the state Bar
Journal for the sixth consecu-
tive time.
In Philadelphia, Bernard G.
Segal, chairman of the Board of
Directors of the Allied Jewish
Appeal, has been unanimously
re-elected chancellor of the
city's Bar Association.
Joseph A. Daroff, prominent
figure in the Philadelphia com-
munity, was cited by the Fel-
lOwship Commission for his
work in improving intergroup
relations. -
Morris M. Schnitzer, it was
reported from Newark, N. J.,
was elected president of the Es-
sex County Bar Association.
Born in. Newark and a resident
of South Orange, he is a direc-
tor of the New Jersey Institute
of Practicing Lawyers and an
associate professor of law at
Rutgers University.
Dr. Thelma G. Alper, presi-
dent of the Massachusetts Psy-
chological Association and a
trustee of Hebrew Teachers Col-
lege, was named associate - pro-
fessor of psychology at Welles-
ley College, near Boston.
Benjamin R. Guss, a promin-
ent Jewish personality in the
Maritime Provinces, was one of
17 leaders of the New Brunswick
bar to become Queen's Counsel.
Guss is chairman of the Mari-
times region, Canadian Friends
of Hebrew University.
