• Mr. Simons 'announced at the
dinner that, with Mr. Aronsson's
•consent, he had named Federal
!Judge Frank A. Picard, Nate S.
Shapero and Joseph Verhelle,
president of the City •Bank, all
of whom we're present at the
dinner, to serve with him on the
committee to select the benefi-
ciaries of the $10,000 fund:
The birthday dinner was ar-
ranged by 27 hosts and was at-
tended by 300 of Mr. Aronsson's
friends_ Among _ the dignitaries
present were many state and
city officials, Federal and county
judges, Police Commissioner Don
Leonard and leaders in ,all walks
of community life. -
Maurice Schwartz, speaking
for the 27 hosts, paid honor to
Mr. Aronsson for his commun-
al loyalties, his devotion to
family and friends.
While the testimonials to
the guest of honor were, in the
main, in a light vein, there
were serious moments at the
dinner. The principal address
was delivered by Samuel H.
Rubiner, president of the Jew
ish, ,Welfare Federation, who
expressed the commuunity's
gratitude to Mr. Aroks son for
his unselfish devotion to com-
munal needs. City Bank Presi-
dent Verhelle honored -Mr.
Aronsson for- his contributions
to civic causes.
A serious note also was
struck by Mr. Aronsson's son,
Herbert, who presented his
father with a testimonial on
behalf of the family.
Others at the dinner who hon-
ored Mr. Aronsson, whom they
named "Santa Claus" in appre-
ciation of many kindnesses,
were:
Sidney Allen, on behalf of the
Jewish Home for Aged; Dr. Jul-
ien Priver, for Sinai Hospital;
Milton Maddin, for Standard
Club; Abe Srere and John
Isaacs, for Franklin Hills a n d
Knollwood Country Clubs; Leon
Wayburn, in behalf of the ad-
vertising agencies of Detroit.
Acting Mayor Louis Miriani
presented Mr. Aronsson with a
proclamation officially setting
Dec. II as Maurice Aronsson
Day in Detroit In a brief Al-
dress, Mr. Miriani acclaimed
Mr. Aronsson's loyalties to city,
state and -country and to all
kunian causes,
Speaking in light vein, "in
behalf of our government, "
Judge Robert Toms, "repre-
Senting the goyim minority,"
hailed _the high standards of
Mr. Aronsson's citizenship:
The inVOcation and benedic-
tion were given by Rabbis Mor-
ris Adler and Minard Klein.
Morrey Aronsson's response
was brief. He was visibly
moved by the outpouring of
tributes and when he was
marched into the dining room-
and realized how his friends
