NEW YORK, (JTA)—The Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai
Brith, in a- letter to Secretary
of State' Dean Acheson, pro-
tested the State Department's
proposed policy of granting
visas, under the provisions of
the McCarran - Walter Immi-
gration Law, to* former Nazis
and fascists. A similar letter
was addressed by the Jewish
Labor Committee to Attorney
General James P. McGranery.
Henry E. Schultz, .ADL nation-
al chairman, questioned the val-
idity of the State Department's
ruling after it was revealed that
4,000 one-time follOwers of the
Hitler political movement, here-
tofore ineligible for admission
to the United States, are ex-
pected to apply for visas when
the new law goes into effect Dec.
24.
Any interpretation that denies
it was the aim of the Nazi
movement to impose totalitar-
ianism on the whole world, the
United States included, is his-
torically and legally wrong,
Schultz declared. He asked Sec-
retary Acheson to reconsider the (top) GOLDEN GREETING BOX.

Florida Town Bars Jews
From Civic Organizations

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (JTA)
—Discrimination against Jewish
residents of St. Petersburg by
the civic clubs of the city was
brought into the open during a
discussion at the Human Rela-
tions Workshop, sponsored by
the St. Petersburg Council on
Hinman Relations.
The disclosures came when
Herbert Crill, president of the
Inter-Civic Conference, which
represents the six service clubs—
Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Ex-
change, Civitan and Optimists—
told the workshop that there
were Jewish members in these
organizations. '
His statement was immediate-
ly challenged by M. G. Rosen-
berg who said that apart from
the two Junior Chambers of
Commerce and a suburban Ki-
wanis Club, no Jews were known
to be members of any St. Pet-
ersburg civic club. It was point-
ed out to the session that a
"gentlemen's agreement" existed
among the civic clubs on the ad-
mission of Jews.
