Acting Mayor

Acting Mayor of Detroit, Louis a Mirianl, officially proclaimed
Sunday, Dec. 14, as Israel Bond "BIG Day," and called upon all

chase of state of Israel bonds."
Upon signing the document, the acting Mayor said, "The in-
vestment dollars resulting from this Bond drive are urgent to
Israel and to all the free world, and will set Israel on the high
road to economic independence. Within the short time that has
elapsed since the inception of the Israel Bond Issue, Israel has
already gained the admiration of the American people for the
vigor with which she has gone about the task of building a mod-
ern industrial plant, and wresting mineral and chemical wealth
from the sands of the desert.
"In the years that lie ahead, she has set for herself the task
of constructing a modern democratic nation with a high standard
of living in one of the most backward areas of the world. With
our help, she will succeed in that historic mission."
