While digging for publicity 'material in connection with the closing of the Jewish Educational Alliance in Baltimore-which was merged last year with the YM and YWHA to become the Jewish Community - Henry W. Levy, publicity director of the Associated Jewish Charities, uncovered some interesting material on former JEA'ers who are now top Tigures . in the field of Jewish social welfare. One was a picture of Joseph Schwartz, executive vice-chairman of the UJA, showing him of all things as a mem- ber of the basketball team of the Champions which appeared in a recent issue of the "Jewish Times." The old files also revealed. that Isidore Sobeloff, now executive director of the Jewish Wel- fare Federation of Detroit, got what was probably his• first job in the field of social welfare in May, 1917, when he was placed in charge of the game room in the JEA, PARTNER WANTED for convalescent "What a Buy!" is this lovely 2 bed- FOUR LEFT 19322 James Couzens MR. TR. 5-6462. TU. 3-1872 Yale Divinity School Planning Bias Survey NEW HAVEN, Conn., (JTA)- A two-year survey to determine the extent of racial and reli- gious bias and prejudice in Protestant church literature in this counrty has been launched by the Yale Divinity School with a grant from the American Jew- ish Committee. Dean Liston Pope declared it was his opinion that the survey can make "a very important contribution to the battle against bias and prejudice in this country." He said that "we have every reason to believe that the religious editors them- selves will be glad to cooperate in making improvements." The Rev. Paul H. Vieth, Hor- ace Bushnell, professor of Chris- tian Nurture, is chairman of a faculty administrative and ad- visory committee for the pro- ject. The Rev. Bernhard E. Olson, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church in Waterbury, Conn., a graduate student in re- ligious education at Yale, has been placed in charge of the survey. Curriculum materials of most of the larger Protestant denom- inations will be studied as well as literature of some of the smaller denominations and the output of publishers of religious texts. Findings of the survey will be gathered in an over-all report and will be made avail- able to church groups, religious educators, writer s, publishers, and others interested in attack- ing bias in church teachings. Report 1,000 Jews Residing in Japan ROCHESTER, N.Y., (JTA) Prince Chichibu, brother of Japan's Emperor Hirohito, is doing much reading in Jewish history and culture, he told Lt. Col. Samuel Blocher of this city in a recent interview in Tokyo. Col. Blocher, who returned home with his wife and daugh- ter after a three-year tour of duty in . Japan, is undergoing treatment at the Walter Reed-- Hospital. He said there was a civilian Jewish population of about 1,000 in Japan, formerly concentrated in Kobe but now divided between Tokyo and Yo-- kahom a. The history of the Jews of Japan, he said, went back about 100 years. The Jews there came originally from India, China, Russia and Germany and they speak Yiddish„ English, Russian and Japanese. A number of them were interned by the Ja- panese authorities during the war. Col. Blocher said there wait little inter-marriage in Japan between Jewish GIs and Japan- ese women. MONUMENTS By Karl C.
