Mid-Western Young Israel Conclave
Now in Session Here at Barium

Thanksgiving dinner at the Bar-
ium .Hotel. In addition to 150
delegates representing mid-
western branches of Young Is-
rael from Buffalo, Chicago, Cin-
cinnati, Cleveland, Syracuse and
Detroit, the opening banquet
was graced with the presence of
Pincus Iseson, president of the
National Council of Young Is-
rael; Rabbi Samson R. Weiss,
national director of the Nation-
al Council of Young . Israel;
Meyer Weiner, vice-president of
the National Council; Mrs. Sarah
Levi, honorary president of the
National Council; Arya Neumark,
director of Youth Activities of
the National Council of Young

Mr. Weiner addressed the
banquet, and the youth groups
of Young Israel of Detroit pre-
sented the musical revue,
"Brown Yarmelka."

All the plenary sessions are
at the Barium Hotel with Henry
C. Keywell, honorary director of
Young Israel, owner of the Bar-
ium Hotel, as host. Six sessions
on youth . work are scheduled
for Friday morning and Satur-

chairman of youth activities

a session entitled, "The Molding
of the Jewish Community."
For Friday night and the Sab-
bath, sessions will shift to the
Young Israel Youth Center. At
an 8 p.m. open forum Friday,
Dr. Weiss will speak on "The
Future of the American Jewish
Community." At Sabbath serv-
ices the sermon will be delivered
by Rabbi Shubert Spero, of
Young Israel of Cleveland.
An oratorical contest will be
held Saturday at 3 p.m. The
Council of Orthodox Rabbis has
arranged for a meeting with the
national delegation and brhnch
presidents for Saturday evening
at 7:30 at the Barium.
On Sunday afternoon, Mrs.
Isidore Levin, president of the
Women's League, will welcome
women delegates. The guest
speaker will be Mrs. Sarah Levi,
honorary president of the Coun-
cil of the Women's League.
At the convention banquet on
Sunday, the guest speaker will
be Mr. Iseson. David I. Berris,
convention chairman, will intro-
duce Mr. M. Bancheck, past
president of Young Israel of
Cleveland, as toastmaster.
The convention committee, in
addition to Mr. Berris as chair-
man, consists of:

Jewish rights and in the build-
ing of Israel. He was always
in the front ranks • of those
who pleaded the Zionist cause.
Even in instances when his
associates in the labor move-
ment in England—the British
Labor Party—were guilty of
betrayals in dealing with Jew-
ish needs, he was unhesitant
in his criticisms of those who
