This Mitzvah Ritual

Bnai Moshe to Begin
Late Friday Services

Services at Temple Beth El at
8:15 p.m., today, will be dedicat-
ed to the Michigan Federation
of Temple Youth which is this
week-end holding its third an-
nual conclave at the Detroit
temple.
Rabbi Minard Klein will ex-
tend greetings and Roger
Greenberg, president of MFTY,
will deliver an address. A re-
ception in honor of the 250 dele-
gates to the conclave will be
held in the Franklin Memorial
Hall following services, under
the auspices of the temple sis-
terhood.
Sabbath morning services at
11 a.m. also will be dedicated to
the MFTY. Rabbi Sanford E.
$aperstein, religious advisor to
the group, will preach on "Liv-
ing Meaningful Jewish Lives."

Cong. Bnai Moshe will open its
season of late Friday services at
8:15 p.m., Dec. 6. The opening
service will honor past presi-
dents of the congregation for
their aid in the synagogue's pro-
gress.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman will
preach the sermon on "Chaim
Weizmann, a Tribute to Great-
ness." Cantor David Katzman
will chant the services.
At a social hour to follow, hos-
tesses will be wives of the past
presidents. They are Mesdames
Theodore Curtis, Adolph
Deutsch, Sam Freedman, Ben
Goldman, Joseph- Kornfield,
Harry Rosman, Irwin Tamler .
and Sadie Vezvary.

leaders this week joined in pay-
ing tribute to the memory of
Dr. Moe S. Perlis, life-long Zion-
ist who died Nov. 14 at the age
of 63.

Zionist Organization of Detroit,
Leon Kay, president, of the
Michigan Zionist Region, and
other local leaders this week

Temple Israel Honors
Architect at Dinner

At a special dinner meeting of
the board of trustees of Temple
Israel, William Edward Kapp,
the architect of the new sanc-
tuary built by the congregation
at Manderson and Merton Road
was presented with a set of
framed resolutions in apprecia-
tion of the beauty of the Tern-
ple.
Max Lerner and Samuel Lin-
den, the building contractors,
joined with the board of trus
tees in praising the quality of
the architect's design.
Rabbi Leon Fram reported that
Temple Israel had "become a
mecca for visitors of all races
and creeds" from all over the
country. He added that Kapp's
design of the Ark as a replica of
the Ark in the Temple of Solo-
mon drew large numbers of
Bible students.
The presentation of the set of
resolutions was made by Louis
H. Schostak, chairman of the
building committee. His co-
chairman was Edward Rose.
Jacob A. Citrin, president,
said that the congregation is
planning, in the near future, to
build the social, recreation and
educational units of the Temple.

The annual Hanukah dinner-
dance of Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue has been scheduled for
6:30 p.m., Dec. 14, in the syna-
gogue social hall, according to
an announcement by David Aar-
on, chairman.
The affair is jointly sponsored
by the congregation, Sisterhood
and Men's Club, and is one of
the synagogue's leading social
events.
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will offer
brief Hanukah greetings, and
Cantor Nicholas Fenakel will
chant the candle-lighting cere-
mony. Dancing will be to the
music of Fenby-Carr Orchestra.

more persons will be arranged

ish Parliament, has been ex-
pelled from the Democratic Par-
ty, the current party in power,
for his reactionary policies. In
a recent conference with the
Turkish Premier, Mr. Ustaoglu
urged the elimination from pub-
lic life of all non-Moslems and
Jews converted to the Moslem

Dr. Perlis was a graduate of

the University of Michigan den-

years. He is survived by his wife,
Selma; a son, Dr. Sandorf J.
Perlis; a daughter, Mrs. Harry ,
Nayer; one grandchild; three
brothers, Dr. Hyman, Harry and
Leo; four sisters, Mrs. Harris
Wienner, Mrs. Joseph Becken-
stein, Mrs. Zalman Stein a n d

augurate a Bas Mitzvah cere-
mony, to be held in conjunction
with late Friday evening serv-
ices.
The first such ceremony will
be solemnized at 8:30 p.m., Dec.
5 when Barbara Goldsmith,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max
Goldsmith, will observe her
Bas Mitzvah. The ceremony is
in keeping with Jewish custom
