Prof. Tur-Sinai to Deliver Hillel
Lecture at Wayne's Religious Week

Rabbi Max Kapustin, director
of the Bnai Brith Hillel Founda-
tion at Wayne University, will
serve as president of the Coun-
cil of Religious Advisors, who,
along with t h e university's
Council of Religious Organiza-
tions is sponsoring "Religion in
Life Week" on Wayne's campus.
The idea of a religious week
has been tried successfully at
many of the nation's colleges
and universities, and has given
students and faculty an oppor-
tunity "to explore and evaluate
the relationship between spirit-
ual living and the present prob-
lems of our time as they are
reflected in the setting of a
large university," Rabbi Kapus-
tin explained.
The team of Jewish speak-
. ers to be presented during the
week to run from this Sun-
day to Thursday will include
Dr. Naphtali H. Tur-Sinai
(Torczyner), professor of He-
brew literature at Hebrew Uni-
versity in Jerusalem; Dr. Mar-
vin Fox, professor of philoso-
phy at Ohio State University;
and
Rabbis Morris Adler,
Frank Rosenthal and Max J.
Wohlgelernter.
Prof. Tur-Sinai will deliver
the fourth annual Hillel lecture
on Tuesday. The address is co-
sponsored by the department of
ancient languages and literature
at Wayne.
The meeting will be held at
8:30 p.m., in room 101, State
Hall, on the university campus.

convocation at the Wayne The-
ater on Woodward. Dr. Clarence
B. Hillberry, acting president,
will preside. Speakers will be Dr.

and Rev. Allen P. Ferrel, S.J.
The public is invited to all
functions, including a concert
of Wayne's Symphony Orches-
tra at 8:15 p.m., Wednesday,
in the Art Institute, which will
feature religious music. Valter
Poole will conduct.
While in Dttroit, Prof. Tur-
Sinai will on Nov. 25 address
students of the Midrasha, and
friends of the Detroit Chapter,
Hebrew University on "The De-
velopment of the HebreW
Language in Israel."
On Nov. 26, he will address
the Kvutzah Ivrith and the staff
of the United Hebrew Schools
on "The Proverbs of Solomon."
The first lecture will be delivered
in English, the second in Hebrew.
Both lectures will be held in
the auditorium of the Rose
Sittig Cohen Bldg., 13226 Law-

The recently-organized Young
Zionist Club will meet at 8:30
p.m. Thursday at the Zionist

"Realities a n d Requirements
of Congregational Leadership"
is the theme of the keynote
address to be delivered by Clar-
ence R. Gross, of Montreal, vice-
president of USA. On behalf of
the host congregation, Nathan
R. Epstein, president of Adas
Shalom, and Rabbi Jacob E. Se-
gal will greet the conference.
"Blueprints for the Ideal Con-
gregation" is the overall theme
for six workshop sessions which
will deal with the functions of
the rabbi; the president; chair-
man of the ritual committee;
chairman of the school com-
mittee; and chairman of the
youth committee.
The closing address of the
conference will be given by Dr.
Leonard Sidlow at a special
Maariv service, at which Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal and Cantor
Nicholas Fenakel will officiate.

re-elected chairman of the Vaad
Hachinuch, the board of educa-

Birchkath Rosh Hodesh (Bless-
ing of the new month) will be
celebrated by the high school
and Midrasha of the United He-
brew Schools at a program Sun-
day, beginning at 11 a.m., in the
Rose Sittig Cohen auditorium.
Alvin Sulkes will be chairman.
Cantor Jacob Sonenklar will
chant the blessing of the new
month.

cuss important events occuring
in Kislev; Meyer Guyer, who will
chant the prayer for rain;
Tziporah Goldin and Allen Sil-
ver, who will tell the importance
of rain in Israel at this time;

come high school freshmen; and
Moshe Dworkin, who will greet
members whose birthdays occur
in Kislev.
Morris Jacobs, will lead a dis-
cussion on the problem of a
"United Jewish Community in
America." A social hOur will fol-
low.
At 8:15 p.m., Monday, the
Midrasha will sponsor a work-
shop on "Dramatics for the
Classroom," to be open to all
Hebrew School and Yiddish
School teachers in Detroit, at
the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg.
Samuel J. Citron, director of
dramatics of the Jewish Educa-
tion Committee of New York,
founder- director of the Jewish
Theater for Children, will lead
the workshop.
Rabbi Henry Hoschander was
formally installed as rabbi all
Cong. Bnai Israel in Pontiac,
Mich., at ceremonies held oa
Wednesday evening. He was for-
merly rabbi of Bnai Israel Syna-
gogue, in Northampton, Mass.
Guest speakers were Rabbis
Moses Lehrman and Samuel
Prero. Cantor Hyman Adler, ac-
companied by Bella Goldberg, at
the piano, provided the musical
portion of the program.
A reception sponsored by the
Sisterhood, followed, at which
Rabbi Hoschander was greeted
by important members of the
Detroit and Pontiac communi-
ties.

marking its 60th anniversary,
with a Jubilee Banquet at the
Latin Quarter on Sunday.
